The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About X2Markdown
X2Markdown is a lightweight Chrome extension that converts visible webpage content into clean Markdown with one right-click — ready to paste into LLM conversations, personal knowledge bases, or note-taking tools.
It works on any webpage, and provides dedicated extraction for x.com posts and longform articles.
Key features:
- Right-click any webpage to copy the article body as Markdown
- Selection-first: select text to copy just that portion, or copy the full page when there is no selection
- Generic webpage mode extracts title, site name, author, publish time, body, and image links
- Powered by Mozilla Readability for reliable article extraction across blogs, docs, forums, and issue pages
- On x.com, extract posts with author, handle, time, URL, body, quoted posts, and image links
- Support for X Article and longform reading views with full body and inline images
- Right-click any visible post card in x.com timelines, lists, and search results
- Automatically expand truncated posts before copying
- Images output as links for easy archiving
- Runtime UI supports both English and Simplified Chinese
Great for:
- Feeding structured content into LLM chats (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.)
- Building Markdown knowledge bases in Obsidian, Notion, Logseq, or local folders
- Archiving research material, news references, and social media posts
- Preparing clean source material for writing, translation, or summarization
Why use it:
- Works on any webpage, not just x.com
- Fast right-click workflow with no extra UI
- Clean Markdown output that preserves document structure
- Minimal permissions — no site-wide host access required
- Processes everything locally in your browser
Current limitations:
- Generic mode works best on article-style pages; homepages and navigation pages may need selection mode
- x.com extraction may break if the page structure changes significantly
- Videos, GIFs, and polls are not exported
- Does not bypass login walls, paywalls, or unrendered content
This is an open-source project.
