Vidkap – Video Downloader

Save the videos a web page plays, in the quality you choose, from a clear and simple popup. Vidkap lists the videos that the page in your current tab actually loads and lets you download them: • Video files the page plays or links to (MP4, WebM, MOV and similar), plus audio files such as MP3 and M4A if you turn them on in the settings • HLS (.m3u8) and DASH (.mpd) streams: Vidkap downloads the segments and joins them into a single MP4 file (or WebM/MKV when the codecs require it). You choose the quality and, when there are several, the audio track • Live HLS/DASH streams, recorded from the moment you start until you click "Stop & save" • Players that load the video in pieces (Media Source): Vidkap records the video while the page plays it back from the start, up to 16× faster and muted • Videos kept in the page's memory (blob addresses) HOW TO USE 1. Open the page with the video and start playing it. 2. Click the Vidkap icon in the toolbar (default shortcut: Alt+Shift+D). 3. Pick a quality and click Download. Follow the progress in the Downloads tab. You can also right-click a video and choose "Download this video with Vidkap". For these, Vidkap records the video while the page replays it from the start, so it takes time: about a quarter of the video's length at the default 4× speed (you can choose up to 16× in the settings). Keep the tab open until it finishes. The recording keeps the quality selected in the player. When the same video can also be downloaded directly, Vidkap tells you and offers the faster direct download first. GOOD TO KNOW • Vidkap never bypasses DRM or any other copy protection. Protected videos are marked as protected and cannot be downloaded. • It only sees the videos that a site sends to your browser. Browser pages (chrome://) and the Chrome Web Store cannot be scanned, and downloading is not available on some sites. • Sites change their players often. On some sites a video appears only after playback starts, or not at all. • Long streams in high quality are assembled in memory and need enough free memory and disk space. PRIVACY Everything happens inside your browser. Vidkap has no server of its own and contains no analytics, tracking or ads. It connects only to the sites you are viewing, to read the details of the videos they load and to fetch the video you ask for. The lists of detected videos are kept in session storage and deleted when you close the browser; your settings stay on your computer. Nothing is sent to the developer or to third parties. Only download videos you have the right to save.
