VidGist turns a long YouTube video into a structure you can actually read and edit. Open a video, click the side panel, and within minutes you get: ■ Outline and section summaries, each with timestamps. Click one and the video jumps there. ■ Video summary: read the conclusion first, then decide whether the full video is worth your time. ■ Mind map: see the whole video's structure at a glance. ■ Key quotes: verbatim lines worth citing, with timestamps, ready to copy and share. ■ Quiz: check what you actually retained. ■ Thread draft: the video's key points, rewritten as a post you can publish. Also included: • Ask the video: ask questions in your own words, get answers with source timestamps. • Transcript search and follow-along highlighting. • Highlights and notes on summaries, sections and the transcript, sorted by video time. • Translated versions: read the finished analysis in another language. • Copy and export as Markdown or JSON. • Dark mode, English / Traditional Chinese UI, keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Shift+Y opens the panel, Ctrl+Shift+U analyzes the current video). Everything syncs with vidgist.app. Edits, notes and labels you make on the web show up in the extension. Getting started 1. Create a free account at vidgist.app. You get credits on sign-up and more each day you log in. 2. Paste your API key into the extension's options page. 3. Open any YouTube video and click the side panel. Not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google. YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC. Permissions and privacy • Runs only on youtube.com watch pages and reads only the current video's URL and title. Tabs on other sites are never read or touched. • The only data that leaves your browser goes to api.vidgist.app (and nowhere else): your API key (to identify your account), the video URL / ID you analyze, the language you pick, the questions you type, your highlight quotes and notes, private labels, ratings and comments, and quiz answers. No other browsing data is sent. • "Capture frame" creates the image file on your computer and downloads it. Nothing is uploaded. • Your API key is stored only in this browser on this device and is not synced to other devices; only preferences such as UI language and theme sync with your browser account. • Video content and results are never shared with third parties.
