The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Video Translator
Video Translator brings real-time translation to YouTube. It reads the subtitles and on-screen text in the video you're watching and displays a translation right over the video — so you can follow along in your own language.
Everything happens on your device. No servers, no accounts, no tracking. The extension uses on-device optical character recognition (OCR) to read text from the video, and Chrome's built-in on-device translator to translate it. Nothing you watch or read ever leaves your browser.
KEY FEATURES
• Real-time translation of YouTube subtitles and on-screen text
• Reads subtitles in 15 languages across Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Cyrillic, Thai, Arabic and Devanagari scripts
• 100% on-device — private by design, nothing is sent to any server
• No account, no sign-up, no tracking, no ads
• Adjustable subtitle appearance (size and opacity) and display position
• Selectable capture region, so OCR reads exactly the part of the video you want
• Multiple OCR quality tiers to balance speed and accuracy
• Light- and dark-mode aware interface
SUPPORTED SUBTITLE LANGUAGES
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Russian, Thai, Arabic and Hindi. Translations can be shown in any of 18 target languages, including Turkish, Vietnamese and Indonesian.
Auto-detect covers Chinese, Japanese and Latin-script subtitles. For Korean, Russian, Thai, Arabic or Hindi, select the subtitle language in the popup so the matching recognition model is used. Vietnamese subtitles are not supported yet.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Open any YouTube video.
2. Click the Video Translator icon and choose your source and target languages.
3. Translations appear over the video as you watch.
PRIVACY
Video Translator is private by design. All OCR and translation run locally in your browser using bundled models and Chrome's built-in Translator API. The extension runs only on YouTube and requests the minimum permissions needed to function. It does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data.
REQUIREMENTS
• Google Chrome 138 or later (required for the on-device translation feature).
Video Translator works only on youtube.com.
