About Video Speed Controller — Speed & Volume Booster

Video Speed Controller puts HTML5 video and audio controls in your toolbar, on the player and at your fingertips. CONTROL WHAT IS OPEN NOW • Change playback speed immediately on the current tab, using 1×, 1.5× and 2× presets or a custom value from 0.07× to 16×. Supported speeds depend on the player. • Use one volume slider: 0% is mute, 100% is normal volume, and values above 100% amplify compatible audio. A Normal mark, orange boost range and Boost label distinguish amplification. Reset volume returns to 100%. • The slider defaults to 0–200% for new users. Change its ceiling in preferences; existing saved boost limits are retained. • Choose “Apply speed & volume to all tabs” when you want both selected values applied to currently loaded, accessible players across open tabs. • See actual player-reported values, including mute, native-player volume changes and active boost, plus mixed-player states and notices when a change is unavailable. SHORTCUTS THAT WORK ACROSS LAYOUTS Shortcuts follow physical key positions, including when you switch between English and Russian layouts. Customize the assignments in the popup. D — faster · S — slower · R — reset speed Z — rewind · X — skip ahead · V — show or hide on-video controls Shortcuts are ignored while typing in editable fields and during supported composition or modifier-key combinations. ON-VIDEO CONTROLS AND COMPATIBLE AUDIO BOOST Use the on-video −/+, reset and volume controls while watching. On devices with a precise pointer and hover, the panel fades when idle and becomes fully visible on hover, during dragging or with keyboard focus. Devices without a precise hover-capable pointer, and forced-colors mode, keep it fully visible; reduced-motion preferences disable fading animation. Boost needs compatible media and browser user activation. If the popup cannot enable it, use the on-video volume control first. Existing running audio processing can be adjusted from either control. Neither control starts playback automatically. Hover over the panel to reveal × and hide controls until the page is reloaded, without changing your saved visibility preference. The configured show/hide shortcut (V by default) restores them sooner. The close button is also available with keyboard focus and on devices without hover. Dismissal is local to the current document, including replacement players; other tabs or embedded documents are unaffected. Boost can be unavailable for embedded, protected or cross-origin media, or when the browser has not enabled audio processing. An unavailable boost request keeps that player's previous volume and shows a notice. Normal 0–100% volume remains available on supported players without enabling boost. Above 100%, distortion may occur; lower the volume if needed. Percentages describe the control setting, not a guarantee of perceived loudness. SEPARATE PREFERENCES FOR FUTURE PLAYBACK Choose a default speed, remember your last speed, and customize speed steps, skip intervals and the boost ceiling. Default and remembered speeds apply to new pages; they do not change other players already open. Editing Default speed also updates the next remembered speed. Light and dark themes include readable buttons and keyboard focus indicators. LOCAL OPERATION The extension handles media properties, shortcut events and temporary player reports locally to provide these controls. While the popup is open, local change notices keep its displayed values current. Preferences and the remembered speed stay in local Chrome storage. It has no account, analytics, advertising or external network requests, and sends no playback or browsing data to the developer. COMPATIBILITY Works with supported HTML5 players on pages Chrome allows extensions to access. Some players, embedded frames and protected Chrome pages are unavailable. After installing or updating, refresh an existing video page so the current extension version can load there.
