The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About VertaPane - Page Translator
VertaPane is a context-aware webpage translator powered by Amazon Bedrock. Translate only what you need while preserving the surrounding page structure and reading flow.
Before you install — please read:
VertaPane does not include a translation service. It is a client for Amazon Bedrock, and you use it with your own AWS account.
- You need your own Amazon Bedrock API key, from an AWS account that has access to the models you want to use. The extension links to the AWS instructions for creating one.
- Amazon Bedrock usage is billed by AWS directly to your account, based on the tokens each translation consumes. VertaPane is free and has no subscription, and the developer receives no part of that cost. The extension shows estimated tokens before translating and the actual token count afterwards so you can keep track.
- Translation requests go from your browser straight to the Amazon Bedrock endpoint in the AWS region you chose. There is no developer-operated server in between.
- Model availability differs by AWS region, and a short-term Bedrock API key only works in the region where it was created. For automatic failover across several regions you need a long-term key with permissions in those regions.
- If you want to see how the interface works before setting up AWS, open the settings page and turn on "Try it without an API key > Preview mode". It runs without any API key and makes no Bedrock requests.
Key features:
- Translate selected text, visible content, or an entire page
- Scan long pages and dynamically loaded content
- Choose an Amazon Bedrock model or compare up to four models
- Compare translation quality, response time, and token usage
- Control translation concurrency from 1 to 5 parallel requests
- Select up to five Amazon Bedrock regions with automatic failover
- Use the interface in Korean or English, automatically or by explicit selection
- Replace selected text or insert the translation below the original
- Undo translation changes immediately
- Work from a persistent Chrome side panel
- Keep optional local translation history and translated-page snapshots
- Reopen or download translated pages as HTML
- Choose whether the API key is kept for the session only or stored on your device
VertaPane uses the Amazon Bedrock API key supplied by the user. By default the key is held in memory-only session storage and is removed when the browser or extension session ends. Users can explicitly opt in to storing the key on their own device so it survives a browser restart; that option is off by default, the interface states that extension storage is not encrypted, and turning it off deletes the stored key immediately. The key is never sent anywhere except the user's chosen Amazon Bedrock endpoint.
Translation requests are sent directly from the extension to Amazon Bedrock regions selected by the user. If a request fails because of regional availability, permissions, throttling, or a server error, VertaPane can retry it in the next selected region. Requests do not pass through a developer-operated translation server.
