The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About VCite
VCite verifies whether an academic citation can be found and whether its DOI, title, authors, publication year, and journal align with source metadata.
Paste one or more references, select a citation on any web page, or explicitly ask VCite to read the current page. Review and correct the extracted fields before verification. VCite then compares each field with metadata from Crossref and DataCite and links back to the original evidence.
Key features:
• Extract citation candidates from pasted, selected, or explicitly read page text.
• Edit the detected title, authors, year, journal, DOI, and URL before verification.
• Compare recognized text and source metadata field by field.
• Distinguish confirmed records, metadata mismatches, missing records, and incomplete checks.
• Open source evidence from Crossref or DataCite.
• Use the side panel without leaving the page you are reading.
• Switch among 12 interface languages and follow the browser's light or dark theme.
Privacy and user control:
VCite processes only citation text you paste or select, or page text you explicitly ask the extension to read. Reading the current page is never automatic. Verification sends extracted citation fields to api.vcite.site; only the query fields needed to find scholarly records are sent to Crossref, DataCite, or doi.org. VCite does not sell submitted data, use it for advertising, or maintain a user account or citation-history database.
VCite verifies publication existence and bibliographic metadata consistency. It does not determine whether a paper supports a claim or whether the paper's conclusions are correct.
