About Twinread: Dual Subtitles on YouTube & Bilingual Page Translator
Learning a language from the videos and articles you already watch and read? Twinread puts the translation under the original: dual subtitles on YouTube and other video sites, and a bilingual view of any web page, paragraph by paragraph.
• Dual subtitles for the whole video, a transcript beside the player, a pause after each line, a repeat, and a translation for any word you click
• Bilingual page translator: the translation under each paragraph, or the translation alone
• Phrases you keep, saved with the sentence they came from, to review later
• PDFs and your own subtitle files, read the same way
Translation runs on the browser's built-in on-device translator: no account, and page text is never sent anywhere. Own-key translation with DeepL or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint is off until you add a key; it sends the text being translated to that provider and nothing else.
Free: any page, subtitles for the first 10 minutes of each video, 200 saved words. Pro: subtitles for the whole video, unlimited saved words with Anki export, transcript export, and PDF study mode.
Sent: your licence key when it is checked. Nothing else.
PERMISSIONS
• activeTab: the page you are on, when you press the toolbar button or a shortcut
• scripting: adds the translation to the page you pick
• storage: settings, glossary, kept phrases and licence key, kept on your computer
• unlimitedStorage: lets a long list of kept phrases grow past the browser's default storage cap
• optional access to any site you choose: asked one site at a time, when you switch on Always translate for it
• optional access to www.youtube.com: asked when you switch on the player button on YouTube pages
• optional access to your translation provider's host: asked when you save an own-key setting
