About Translate for X (Twitter)
Translate for X (Twitter) displays translations below supported posts (tweets) as you browse X, in the language you choose. The original post remains visible. Availability and quality depend on Chrome's on-device translator and the languages it supports.
HOW IT WORKS
The translation is made on your computer, by the translator built into Chrome. The extension has no developer-operated server, no account, no ads and no analytics.
When a language model is needed, Chrome may need to download it. You may be asked to interact with the page to allow the download. Once a supported model is ready, translations can appear automatically.
WHAT YOU GET
• A translation under posts, replies and quoted posts written in a language Chrome's translator supports, into the language you choose.
• Long posts: optional "Show more" handling attempts to expand long posts in place when X allows it. Some posts may still need to be opened manually.
• @names and links are kept exactly as the author wrote them.
• Listen: the translation is read aloud by a voice installed on your computer.
• Reply in their language: you write your reply in your own language. The extension translates it, shows you how it reads back in your language, and writes it in X's reply box. You press the send button yourself; the extension never presses it.
• My dictionary: your own corrections ("football" becomes "soccer"), applied to every translation.
• An optional "Google Translate" link under each translation, for a second opinion, and under posts in languages Chrome cannot translate yet. When you choose it, Google Translate opens in a new tab with up to 4,500 characters of that post in the address of the page. You can switch the link off.
• Your choice of colour, text size and line spacing for the translation, and of languages you do not want translated.
• The extension's own pages are in 10 languages: English, Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese and Spanish.
HONEST NOTES
• Translations are produced by Chrome's on-device translator. Quality varies by language and context. For a second opinion, you can choose to open Google Translate manually.
• It needs Chrome 138 or newer on a computer. It does not work on phones.
• Chrome's translator does not handle every language yet. For those posts the extension offers the Google Translate link instead.
• For posts with multiple writing systems, some lines may remain unchanged. The extension does not reliably identify every language within a mixed-language post.
• If X changes the design of its pages, translations may stop until the extension is updated.
PRIVACY
The extension does not upload post text to the developer or a translation server for its on-device translation. When you choose the optional Google Translate link, up to 4,500 characters of that post are included in the URL opened with Google. Chrome may download language models separately. The extension does not automatically send diagnostic reports; if you choose to contact us, review your message before sending it. Your settings and your dictionary are saved in Chrome's local storage on your computer. Full policy: https://searchhub.one/translate-for-x-privacy.html
