About Transcripts for YouTube
Read any YouTube video like an article.
Transcripts for YouTube adds a clean transcript panel next to the video. Instead of hundreds of tiny caption fragments, you get readable paragraphs that follow along as the video plays.
• Paragraphs, not fragments: captions are grouped into readable paragraphs that break at the end of sentences. Prefer one line per caption? Switch it in settings.
• Click to jump: click any timestamp or any sentence and the video skips straight there.
• Follows the video: the sentence being spoken is highlighted and kept in view. Scroll away and a "Back to current" button brings you back.
• Search: find every mention of a word, with matches highlighted and counted.
• Any caption language: pick from every language the video has captions in, or auto-translate into another.
• Copy in one click: copy the full transcript, with or without timestamps.
• Download: save as a text file (.txt), subtitles (.srt) or data (.json).
• Your way: text size, timestamps on or off, and light and dark themes that match YouTube.
Private by design
No account, no tracking, no analytics, no ads. The extension only talks to YouTube, sends no cookies with its requests, and keeps your settings on your own device.
Good for Students taking notes from lectures, researchers quoting interviews, writers and journalists checking what was said, language learners, and anyone who would rather read than watch.
Works on videos that have captions, including YouTube's auto-generated ones. Note that YouTube itself blanks out some words in auto-generated captions.
