The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Trace
I built this because of how hard it is to keep track while reading fanfiction.
What the extension does
- Shows your place on story and listing pages: "Reading 14/32", "Finished", "Saved".
- Keeps your recorded progress up to date automatically as you read, so you don't have to manually update anything regularly.
- Adds everything to your Trace library, which you can access on any device.
- Lets you keep a private rating, notes and tags, all filterable alongside lots of other metadata.
- Hides works you don't want to keep seeing.
- Saves AO3 search filters you use often.
- Brings AO3 and FFN reading history together in one place.
Your library lives in Trace, on the web and in the Trace iPhone app, so all your history is there whatever device you read on.
This is a companion, not a replacement
- Stories stay on the sites. You always read on AO3 or FanFiction.net, so authors keep their hits and kudos.
- The extension only runs on AO3 and FanFiction.net, plus Trace's own site to stay signed in, and it stays off their sign-in pages.
- No passwords. Trace never asks for your AO3 or FanFiction.net password, and it doesn't request cookie access.
- Private by default. Your library, ratings, notes and tags are yours and yours alone.
- Nothing sold, no ads.
- The extension's source is public: https://github.com/tracefiction/trace-browser-extension
Free for up to 100 stories, with no time limit. Trace Unlimited, a paid plan, lifts the limit and keeps the project going.
Trace is in beta and still growing. If something's missing or rough, I'd love to hear from you: support@tracefiction.com
Trace is an unofficial companion. It isn't affiliated with AO3, the Organization for Transformative Works, or FanFiction.net.
