About Text Compare

Need a clear view of what changed before you send a draft back? Open Text Compare, paste on the left and the right, and compare two texts in one workspace. Checking a config, a reply, or two code snippets should not demand a full editor. This tab is a small diff checker: drop a file, press Compare, and read the diff. πŸš€ How Text Compare works 1. Click the toolbar icon. The workspace opens with two empty panes. 2. Paste content or drop a file into Left and into Right. 3. Press Compare. Newline noise is ignored until you turn Strict on. 4. Copy left, copy right, or copy patch into the clipboard. 🧩 Reading changes in this diff checker Put the older draft in either pane. Compare lays the two versions out as side by side text. Edit returns to your drafts; Live refreshes the result as you type. β–Έ By default the comparison normalizes line endings and ignores trailing whitespace. β–Έ Strict preserves both, so a code compare of two snippets sees every space. β–Έ A preview can look unchanged while the raw patch includes whitespace edits. - Copy left and copy right take a side as it is; copy patch records the changes. - The unified view combines additions and removals; the two-pane view keeps versions alongside each other. πŸ“ Choose how to read the result Wrap keeps long lines within the pane. Word highlights suit paragraphs; character highlights help inspect a single changed symbol in code. Fold unchanged lines to focus on edits, then expand them for context. πŸ“Œ A place for a focused review Check a reply before sending it, run a text comparison on a revised paragraph, or go through two versions of a function. Keep your source editor beside the result while choosing changes to transfer. πŸ“„ Review changes and merge selected lines Text Compare lets you transfer a changed line with its arrow, undo a transfer, and review the updated result. Copy a side or a patch, save an HTML report, or use the browser print dialog to save a PDF. Check a changed reply, a moved function or a blank line in a config. Use the workspace to compare text on both sides and take the changes you need. Leave the workspace open in a tab beside the drafts you are reviewing. Wrap stays on so a JSON line does not run off the pane. Turn wrap off when a packed long line should stay on one row. The main action sits under the editors. Strict stays a toggle because code and prose may need different whitespace rules. Use copy patch for the change itself. A patch uses the original text, including whitespace that the preview may ignore. Put last week's draft on the left and today's edit on the right. Check a moved function, a changed config key, or a blank line. Read both versions next to each other, then use the arrows to transfer the changes you choose. Text Compare updates the result after a transfer. Undo restores the previous pair so you can review a different combination before copying or exporting it. When a colleague sends a rewrite, put the old paragraph on one side and the new one on the other. Read the changes and transfer the lines you choose. Use the result to review the revised draft. ❓ Questions people ask πŸ“Œ What can I put in a pane? A: Anything you can select: drafts, configs, replies, or two files saved as characters. PDF and Word binaries are outside this version. πŸ“Œ Does the result treat every space as a change? A: By default the comparison normalizes line endings and ignores trailing whitespace, while keeping leading indentation. Switch Strict on to preserve line endings and whitespace, which matters for code. The Ignore spaces switch controls trailing whitespace, not every space inside a line. πŸ“Œ How do I take the result out? A: Use copy patch for a unified snippet, copy a side, or save an HTML report. The PDF action opens browser printing; choose Save as PDF there. πŸ“Œ Can I compare two texts from files? A: Yes. Drop a file onto a pane, or paste from the editor you already have open. The workspace reads characters, not a binary. πŸ“Œ Why Text Compare and not a website form? A: Keep Text Compare in a tab next to your drafts, paste both versions and review the changes. The workspace brings the input, result and export actions together in one place. Click the toolbar icon, paste or drop text, then Compare. Limits: 5 MiB per file, 500,000 characters per side, 10 MiB per report. Complex comparisons or patches may also reach the processing limit; a status asks for smaller input. Compare a function, paragraph or config file. Choose word or character highlights, fold unchanged lines and switch result views. Live updates the comparison while you edit. Install Text Compare, paste content on both sides, and see the result without opening a separate web form.
