Tab Unloader frees up memory by unloading tabs you aren't using, without closing them. An unloaded tab stays in your tab strip with its title and place intact, and it reloads the moment you click it.
Unload any tab, not just the one you're looking at:
• Tab list: click the toolbar icon to see every open tab. Filter by title or URL and press Unload next to the one you want. Tabs that are already unloaded appear dimmed.
• Right-click menu: on recent versions of Chrome, right-click any tab header and choose "Unload tab". The Tab Unloader submenu is also on the right-click menu of any web page.
• Keyboard shortcut: press Alt+U to unload the current tab. You can change the key at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
• Unload all other tabs: one click to unload everything except the tab you're on. Pinned tabs are skipped.
Good for:
• Keeping a long list of tabs open without a slow, memory-heavy browser
• Parking research, documentation and reading tabs until you need them
• Freeing up memory on laptops without losing your tab layout
Privacy: Tab Unloader collects no data. Everything runs locally in your browser. It reads tab titles and URLs only to show the tab list, and it never sends them anywhere.
Note: the "Unload tab" item in the tab-strip right-click menu needs a recent version of Chrome. On older versions, use the toolbar popup, the page right-click menu or Alt+U.
Tab Unloader is free. If it saves you time, the optional "Buy me an AI credit" button in the popup is a nice way to say thanks.
