About Speed Boost — Performance Booster
Speed Boost — Performance Booster for Slow & Old Computers
Make every website load faster and feel snappier — even on an old laptop, a budget Chromebook, a low-RAM office PC, or an older macOS. Speed Boost automatically strips out the CSS animations, blur effects, autoplay videos, trackers, and heavy background scripts that make modern websites feel sluggish on hardware that wasn't built for them. One click, every site, instantly lighter.
No sign-up. No account. No data collection, no analytics, nothing phoning home. Install it and the web gets lighter — that's the whole product.
WHY YOUR BROWSER FEELS SLOW
Most "my computer is slow" problems aren't your computer's fault — they're the website's. Modern pages are stuffed with looping CSS animations, parallax scrolling, backdrop blur ("frosted glass" / glassmorphism UI), drop shadows on every card and button, auto-playing background videos, oversized uncompressed images, and dozens of invisible ad and tracking scripts firing in the background on every single page load. On a brand-new machine with a dedicated GPU you barely notice. On an older laptop, a Chromebook, a netbook, a budget desktop, or any computer with limited RAM and integrated graphics, all of that adds up fast: laggy scrolling, spinning fans, hot laptops, draining battery, and pages that take forever to feel responsive even after they've "finished loading." Speed Boost turns all of it off before it ever has a chance to slow you down.
EVERYTHING SPEED BOOST CAN TURN OFF
Visual effects — the biggest CPU & GPU drain on old hardware
• Kill CSS animations — stops looping, scroll-triggered, and hover-triggered animations dead in their tracks
• Kill transitions — removes animated hover and state-change effects across every button, menu, and card
• Remove blur & glass effects — disables backdrop-filter / frosted-glass UI, one of the single heaviest GPU costs on integrated graphics
• Remove shadows — strips box-shadow and text-shadow rendering overhead site-wide
• Disable smooth scrolling — restores instant, lag-free, old-school scrolling
• Disable parallax backgrounds — stops expensive scroll-linked background effects from repainting on every scroll event
• Use fast system fonts — swaps custom web fonts for your operating system's built-in fonts, so text renders immediately instead of waiting on font downloads and layout shifts
Loading & network — fewer requests, less to download
• Block auto-playing videos — stops muted hero videos, background clips, and social-feed autoplay from eating CPU, GPU, and bandwidth the instant a page loads
• Lazy-load images & iframes — defers everything below the fold so the visible part of the page renders immediately instead of waiting on images you haven't scrolled to yet
• Block ads & trackers — a built-in blocklist kills ad scripts, tracking pixels, and analytics beacons before they ever load, cutting both page weight and the dozens of silent background network requests that quietly slow every page down
Extreme mode — for truly underpowered hardware or very slow connections
• Hide all images & video — a one-click, text-only reading mode for the absolute fastest possible page loads on very old devices, metered or slow internet connections, or low-bandwidth / data-saver situations
PER-SITE CONTROL
Speed Boost isn't all-or-nothing. Every setting applies globally by default, but you stay in control of individual sites:
• Fully turn Speed Boost off on specific sites, with wildcard support (*.example.com) to cover an entire domain and all of its subdomains in one rule
• Switch any single site to Default or Custom mode and fine-tune exactly which effects are disabled there, right from the toolbar popup — no digging through settings
• Manage everything from a full options page: global defaults, a searchable list of sites you've turned Speed Boost off for, and a searchable, expandable list of per-site custom configurations
• Know at a glance whether it's active — the toolbar icon itself visibly dims whenever Speed Boost is off, either globally or just for the site you're currently on, so you're never left guessing
WHO THIS IS FOR
• Anyone browsing on an old laptop, an aging MacBook, a Windows 7/8/10/11 machine with modest specs, a Chromebook, a netbook, a budget desktop, or a work, school, or library computer with limited RAM or an integrated GPU
• Students and office workers stuck with company-issued or school-issued low-spec hardware
• Gamers and multitaskers who want to reclaim CPU, GPU, and RAM being eaten by background browser tabs
• Anyone on a slow, metered, rural, or unreliable internet connection who wants lighter pages and fewer wasted megabytes
• Anyone who finds autoplay video, flashing animations, or parallax scrolling distracting, overwhelming, or physically uncomfortable — including people with motion sensitivity or vestibular disorders who need a calmer, lower-motion browsing experience
• Privacy-minded users who want fewer third-party trackers and ad scripts loading on every page by default
• Developers, QA testers, and support staff who want a one-click way to preview how a site behaves in a stripped-down, low-power environment
PRIVACY
Speed Boost runs entirely on your device. It does not collect, store, sell, or transmit any browsing history, personal information, or usage analytics — there is nothing to sign up for, nothing syncing to a server, and nothing phoning home. Its only network-facing behavior is blocking requests, never making them. What happens in your browser stays in your browser.
AVAILABLE IN 19 LANGUAGES
The full interface — popup, settings, and every label — is translated into English, German, Turkish, Russian, Spanish, Italian, French, Swedish, Polish, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic (with complete right-to-left layout support), Portuguese (both Brazilian and European), Korean, Dutch, Hindi, Vietnamese, and Indonesian. It automatically matches whatever language your browser is already set to — nothing to configure.
