The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Snipry: Screenshot to Text & OCR (on-device)
Screenshot to text, without uploading a single pixel.
Drag a box over anything on a page, right-click an image, or paste a screenshot into the popup, and Snipry reads the text out of it. Snip a QR code or a barcode and you get what it encodes instead: a link, a Wi-Fi string, a product number. Copy it, done.
Every snip is read on your own machine. Snipry does OCR entirely on your device; your images, and the text in them, are never uploaded. No account, no sign-in, works offline. English is built in, so it works from the very first snip with nothing to download.
Don't trust the promise, check it: Snipry asks for no host permissions and no tabs permission, never reads a tab you didn't act on, and its own code ships unminified for any developer to read.
Three ways to snip
• Press Ctrl+Shift+S (Cmd+Shift+S on Mac) on a web page and drag a box
• Right-click any image → "Snip text from this image"
• Paste or drop a screenshot into the popup
chrome:// pages, the Web Store and Chrome's PDF viewer can't be snipped; paste a screenshot of them instead.
What happens to a snip
• Codes first. A QR code or barcode is decoded on your machine by a decoder bundled in the extension, which also tries light-on-dark codes. If nothing decodes, Snipry reads the text.
• Then enhancement. A browser screenshot is roughly 90 to 120 DPI; text recognition works best near 300. So Snipry turns each snip grayscale, stretches its contrast, scales it up toward about 300 DPI, makes it clean black on white and straightens a tilt of up to 6 degrees (it never invents one). On by default; switch it off in the extension options.
• An editable result. Recognition is never perfect, so the text lands in a box you can edit, and Copy takes your corrected version.
Free: unlimited snips in English, QR and barcode reading, enhancement and the editable result. Fully offline.
Pro (one-time $9): 40+ languages, including Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and Cyrillic scripts; tables to CSV/Markdown; code kept verbatim; searchable snip history + export to .txt, .md and .csv. Each language downloads once, then works offline. Pay once, keep it forever. 14-day money back, just email us.
No subscription, no account, no card kept on file. Your Pro key is verified on your own machine and never expires, so there is nothing to renew and nothing to bill you again. Built by Gaperi Consult S.R.L.; a real person answers at support@snipry.com.
