The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Shorts Composer: Captions, Clips, Highlights
**Shorts Composer** is a Chrome side panel extension that collects and organizes material from YouTube videos in one place. Pin it next to a video and use a single keyboard shortcut to snip key moments, pull the full caption track as text, or surface every timestamp commenters dropped — all without leaving the page.
### Features
**🎬 Clip key moments (Q / E)**
- Press Q while watching to mark the start, E to mark the end
- Or click [Clip start] / [Clip end] in the side panel header
- Add notes to saved clips, one-click seek back to any clip
**📝 Caption extraction**
- Pull a video's caption track as a clean text list
- Shorts-style split option (auto-wrap by character limit)
- Download as TXT or SRT
**🕒 Comment timestamp collection**
- Auto-parses `0:00`-style timestamps from the description and comments
- See every moment viewers flagged in a single list, jump to any of them
**📊 Per-video stats + persistence**
- Caption lines · comment timestamps · saved clips · length at a glance
- All material is stored per video — close and re-open, everything stays
**💾 Multiple export formats**
- Script TXT (caption body)
- Script SRT (subtitle file)
- Timeline TXT (description · comments)
- Clips TXT (saved clip list)
- Full JSON (per-video backup)
**🌐 Korean / English**
- Toggle KO / EN in the side panel header
- Korean by default, English just changes the UI — your data is untouched
### Privacy
- Data lives **only in your browser** (Chrome's `storage.local`)
- No external server, no account, no login
- No analytics SDK, no ad network, no trackers
### Permissions
- **storage**: persist per-video captions, clips, and highlights locally (your browser only)
- **sidePanel**: render the UI in Chrome's side panel
- **downloads**: save TXT/SRT/JSON exports
- **activeTab**: read video info from the YouTube tab you're currently on
- **scripting**: read accurate video metadata from YouTube's player API (DOM heuristics return stale data during SPA navigation — this avoids that)
- **host_permissions (`https://www.youtube.com/*`)**: works on youtube.com only, no other sites are touched
### How to use
1. Install the extension
2. Open a YouTube video page (`youtube.com/watch?v=...`)
3. Click the side panel icon in Chrome's top-right or the extension's action icon
4. While watching, hit Q/E to clip; use the [Timeline] tab to pull captions and comment timestamps
5. Export from the [Export] tab in your preferred format
### Limitations
- **Long-form videos** (`/watch`) only — YouTube Shorts (`/shorts`) is disabled
- Captions require the video to actually have them (auto-generated captions count)
- Comment timestamp analysis runs after the comments section has loaded
### Support development
This extension is **free** and **never sends your data outside YouTube**. Tips help fund new features like AI caption summaries and auto-highlights.
