The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Shelff — Bookmark Dashboard
Drowning in bookmarks? Shelff turns your messy bookmark list into a clean, visual dashboard you can actually scan.
If you've saved hundreds of links over the years, you know the problem: Chrome's bookmark manager is a wall of tiny text. You can't find anything, so you never go back. Shelff fixes that.
★ WHAT SHELFF DOES
Shelff reads the bookmarks you already have and lays them out as a visual grid — every bookmark gets a card with its site favicon, page title, and a one-line description. Your folders become clean, collapsible categories. Suddenly you can find things by looking, not by squinting.
★ KEY FEATURES
- VISUAL GRID DASHBOARD — Every bookmark as a scannable card with its favicon, title, and description. Built for people with hundreds of bookmarks, not a dozen.
- ORGANIZED BY FOLDER — Your existing folders become categories, with subfolders shown as nested groups. Nothing to set up. It just reflects what you already have.
- TAGS — Add up to 3 tags to any bookmark and filter by them instantly. Folders are one-dimensional; tags let a link live in more than one place.
- INSTANT SEARCH — Hit "/" and filter every bookmark by title, site, description, or tag as you type.
- SHELFF FAVORITES — Pin up to 8 bookmarks to a dedicated section at the top for the sites you open every day.
- QUICK SAVE — Click the toolbar icon to save the page you're on: pick a folder, create a new folder, add tags, and star it as a favorite, all in one small popup.
- DRAG TO ORGANIZE — Drag any bookmark card into another folder to move it. Clean up years of mess in minutes.
- DELETE WITH UNDO — Chrome has no bookmark trash. Shelff gives you an undo button, so a misclick doesn't cost you a link forever.
- CUSTOM DESCRIPTIONS — Write your own one-line note on any bookmark so you remember why you saved it.
- DARK MODE — Light, dark, or follow your system theme.
- EXPORT TO HTML — Download your bookmarks as a standard HTML file you can import into Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari. Your data is never locked in.
★ PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Shelff has no account, no sign-up, and no server. It doesn't collect, transmit, or sell your data — because there's nowhere for it to go. Your bookmarks, tags, favorites, and descriptions are stored locally on your own computer using Chrome's storage, and they stay there.
The one optional feature that touches the network (richer favicon lookups) is turned OFF by default, and clearly labeled when you turn it on. You decide.
★ WHO IT'S FOR
- Researchers and students with hundreds of saved sources
- Developers with folders full of docs and references
- Designers collecting inspiration
- Anyone whose bookmarks bar gave up years ago
★ PERMISSIONS, EXPLAINED
We ask for the minimum, and here's exactly why:
- "bookmarks" — to read and organize your bookmarks. That's the whole product.
- "favicon" — to show each site's icon from Chrome's own local cache.
- "storage" — to save your tags, favorites, and descriptions on your device.
- "activeTab" — to grab the title and URL of the current page when YOU click the save button. It cannot see any other tab.
No browsing history access. No content scripts. No analytics.
★ FREE
Shelff is free. No paywalled tiers, no "premium" upsell for the duplicate-cleanup you actually need.
Install it, click the icon, and see your bookmarks properly for the first time.
