About Saidby — Private Transcripts
Saidby writes down your Google Meet calls as they happen, with the name of the person who said each line, and records the call with a separate track for every speaker. Speech recognition runs on your computer, so the audio and the text are never uploaded.
WHAT YOU GET
• A live transcript in the side panel, a second or two after each phrase, labeled with the names shown in the call.
• A recording of the call: one audio file with an "Everyone" track plus a track for each person.
• Save the transcript as text or Markdown, copy it, or download everything as one .zip with a separate audio file per speaker.
• Echo removal for calls without headphones, so other people's words picked up by your microphone don't end up in your lines.
• A history of your transcripts, which you can reopen, save or delete at any time.
• The sound of any other tab, such as a lecture, a webinar or a video, can be transcribed too. In that mode only the tab is recorded, not your microphone, and lines are not labeled with names.
LIVE TRANSLATION
Turn on "Translate what others say" in Settings and pick your language: what other people say appears translated into it, right above their own words, like live subtitles. Saidby works out which language each person speaks. Translation is done by Chrome's built-in translator on your computer, in a fraction of a second per line; the first time a language comes up, Chrome fetches a small language pack for it after you click to allow it. Translations are saved with the transcript and included when you copy or save it. Your own lines and transcribed files are not translated.
AUDIO AND VIDEO FILES
Have a recording already, such as an interview, a podcast or a voice memo? Press Transcribe file in the side panel, or drop the file on it. It's transcribed on your computer by the same speech model, with a progress bar and the time left, and once the file is copied in you can close the panel. The transcript joins your history with times from the start of the file, and saves like any other. A file is transcribed as one voice, without speaker names. A two-hour recording takes a few minutes with a fast graphics card, about 15 minutes on a laptop's built-in graphics, and from half an hour to an hour on a computer without graphics acceleration.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
The speech model (NVIDIA Parakeet) runs on your computer's graphics chip, or on its processor if the browser has no graphics acceleration. It is downloaded once, about 1.26 GB (0.9 GB for the processor version), and after that nothing about your calls or your files leaves your computer. Translation runs on your computer too. Transcripts and recordings are kept in Chrome on this computer. There is no account, no analytics and no ads.
OPEN ABOUT RECORDING
Before a call is transcribed, you confirm that you have told everyone in it. While Saidby works, the call page shows "Transcribing on this computer". Recording laws differ between countries; make sure everyone agrees.
LANGUAGES
Saidby understands 25 European languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Dutch, Ukrainian and Russian, and recognizes the language by itself. The full list is on saidby.zelenye.com.
WHAT YOU NEED
Chrome on a computer with about 1.3 GB of free disk space for the speech model. It is fastest with WebGPU (graphics acceleration), which most computers from the last few years have. Without it the model runs on the processor: slower, so in long calls the last lines may arrive a while after the call ends. You can also pick the processor yourself in Settings.
FREE AND PRO
Every feature is free for sessions up to 30 minutes and for the first 30 minutes of each file. Saidby Pro removes these limits; it is sold on saidby.zelenye.com and activated in the side panel under Settings → License.
HOW TO START
1. Click the Saidby icon. The side panel opens; the first time, download the speech model.
2. Join a Google Meet call, confirm that everyone knows, and press Start transcribing.
3. Press Stop when you are done, then save the transcript or the audio.
To transcribe a recording from your computer, press Transcribe file in the side panel or drop the file on it.
