About RecipeSnip: Recipe Extractor & Meal Planner
RecipeSnip is a recipe extractor and meal planner for Chrome. One click strips a cluttered recipe page down to the ingredients, the steps, and timers you can start from them — then saves it, scales it, and turns a week of recipes into a single shopping list.
MOST RECIPE PAGES ARE NOT ABOUT THE RECIPE
You searched for a chicken dinner. You got a thousand words about someone's trip to Tuscany, four autoplaying videos, a newsletter popup, two ads that reflow the page every time you scroll, and — somewhere near the bottom, past the third "jump to recipe" button that didn't work — six ingredients and four steps.
RecipeSnip fixes that in one click.
Click the toolbar button and the page becomes a clean, full-screen cooking view. Ingredients on one side, numbered steps on the other, timers built into the steps that mention them, and nothing else competing for your attention. Close it and you're back on the original page, unchanged.
RecipeSnip doesn't block ads, rewrite the site, or take anything away from the people who publish recipes. It reads the recipe the site already published, and shows you that.
WHAT YOU GET FREE, FOREVER
COOK MODE A full-screen workspace built for a kitchen, not a browser. Large type, high contrast, checkboxes beside every ingredient so you can tick them off as you go, and three themes including a dark one for evening cooking.
INGREDIENT SCALING Cooking for two when the recipe serves six? Scale from half up to triple with one tap. RecipeSnip understands the way recipes are actually written — it converts ⅔ to 1⅓ rather than 0.67, turns "2–3 tablespoons" into "4–6 tablespoons" instead of mangling the range, and knows to leave "1 (14 oz) can" and "bake at 350°F" alone.
STEP TIMERS Any step that mentions a duration gets a timer button. Tap it and the timer runs in the background — close the tab, browse somewhere else, shut the window entirely, and Chrome will still notify you when your bread is done. Run as many at once as your dinner needs, add a minute to any of them from the notification itself, and watch the countdown from the toolbar badge.
HANDS-FREE STEP MODE Work through the recipe one step at a time, with a read-aloud button for when your hands are covered in flour.
KEEP THE SCREEN AWAKE Your display stays on while Cook Mode is open, so the recipe doesn't vanish at the worst possible moment.
PRINTING THAT ACTUALLY WORKS Print the recipe — not the banner ads, the sidebar, the comment section, and the author's biography. Just the ingredients and the steps, laid out to fill the page properly.
MANUAL RESCUE Some pages defeat every extractor. When that happens, paste the recipe in by hand and get the full Cook Mode experience anyway.
EXPORT YOUR DATA Download everything you've saved as a JSON file, any time, free. Your recipes are yours.
RECIPESNIP PRO — $14.99 PER YEAR
YOUR PRIVATE RECIPE BOX Save any recipe with one click. Search across every recipe you've saved — by name, by site, by collection, or by ingredient, so "what did I make with that leftover buttermilk" is one search away. Mark favorites, sort them into collections, and attach your own notes: the substitution that worked, the oven that runs hot, the thing you'd do differently next time.
COMBINED GROCERY LISTS Pick five recipes, get one shopping list. RecipeSnip merges duplicate ingredients, remembers which recipe each item came from, and sorts everything by aisle — produce, meat and seafood, dairy and eggs, bakery, pantry, frozen. Add your own items, tick things off as you shop, and clear the checked ones with one tap.
WEEKLY MEAL PLANNER Assign recipes to seven days, then build the entire week's shopping list from that plan in a single click. It works in reverse too: already built a grocery list? Fill the planner from it, and RecipeSnip works out which recipes those ingredients came from and lays them across your empty days.
SEND THE LIST TO YOUR PHONE Scan a QR code and your grocery list opens on your phone as a tappable checklist, grouped by aisle. It remembers what you've ticked off if you close the tab mid-shop, and lets you add the thing you remembered in aisle four. No app to install, no account, no sign-in. The list travels inside the link itself and is never uploaded to a server.
PANTRY MODE Tell RecipeSnip what's already in your kitchen and it leaves those items off your shopping list.
USE WHAT I HAVE See which of your saved recipes you can cook tonight without another trip to the store.
RECIPE CARDS Export any recipe as a clean image, ready to text to someone or pin to a board.
Pro is one payment a year, and one license covers three devices. There is no monthly plan, no upsell inside Cook Mode, and no feature that quietly stops working.
Try it first: you get ten free Pro actions, no card required.
HOW RECIPESNIP FINDS THE RECIPE
Most recipe extractors read one kind of structured data and give up when a site doesn't publish it. RecipeSnip runs five approaches and keeps whichever one produces the best result:
Structured recipe data (JSON-LD), which most large recipe sites publish
Microdata embedded in the page markup
Microformats, used by older food blogs
The specific markup of the common WordPress recipe plugins — WP Recipe Maker, Tasty Recipes, Mediavine Create, Cookbook, recipe card blocks, EasyRecipe
A fallback that finds the "Ingredients" heading and reads the list underneath, for sites that publish no structured data at all
That last one matters more than it sounds. It's what makes RecipeSnip work on small personal blogs, printed-recipe scans someone typed up, and the twenty-year-old page your aunt's church group still maintains.
And when a page beats all five, Manual Rescue is there.
YOUR DATA STAYS ON YOUR COMPUTER
This is not a marketing line, it's how the extension is built.
