About Quire – EPUB Reader

Click a link to an .epub file and it opens right in Chrome, in a clean reader. No separate app required. READ YOUR WAY • .epub links open directly. Click a link to a book and start reading. Quire also catches links that don't end in .epub but serve an EPUB file, and adds "Open link in Quire EPUB Reader" to the right-click menu. • Search the whole book. Every chapter at once, not just the one you are on. Results are grouped by chapter with the match highlighted on the page; press Enter for the next one. Ctrl+F (⌘F on Mac) or / to start. • Bookmarks that stick. Your reading position is saved as you turn pages. Close the tab, restart Chrome, or open the same file from somewhere else, and your bookmarks and place are still there. • Page or scroll. Read in pages (one or two columns, depending on your window) or switch to scroll mode, where the next chapter follows when you reach the end of this one. MAKE IT YOURS • Light, sepia and dark themes. • Choose the font, size, line spacing and page width. Justified or ragged text. • Table of contents with your current chapter highlighted. • Keyboard shortcuts: arrows to turn pages, B to bookmark, T for contents, M for pages/scroll, D for theme, ? for the full list. • Read aloud with locally installed voices on your computer. The paragraph being read is highlighted and pages turn as it goes. • A library of your books with covers and progress. Books are stored in your browser and reopen without the original file. • Open files from your computer: drop an EPUB on the library or pick one. • Error messages for damaged files and files that aren't EPUBs. • EPUB 2 and EPUB 3. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No accounts, no analytics, no ads. • Your books, bookmarks and settings stay in this browser. Nothing is uploaded or synced. • The only thing Quire downloads is the book you chose to open. • Scripts inside EPUB files are blocked. PERMISSIONS, IN PLAIN WORDS • "Read and change all your data on all websites": when you click a link to an EPUB, Quire redirects that one navigation into its reader and fetches the book from the site that hosts it. A book can be on any site, so this needs access to all sites. Quire has no content scripts: it does not read or change the pages you visit. • "Manage your downloads" (optional, asked only if you turn it on in the library's preferences): lets Quire open EPUB files that a site forces to download, and .epub files you drag onto Chrome. Other downloads are left alone. To open file:// links to books on your computer, turn on "Allow access to file URLs" on the extension's details page. Choosing or dropping a file works without it. Works on Chromebook: Quire runs anywhere Chrome extensions do, including ChromeOS. Part of the Quire family of private readers for Chrome → https://quireapps.com/
