About PonchoGuard
Scammers count on two moments: a page that says your computer is locked, and a payment you cannot take back. PonchoGuard watches for both, quietly, on your own computer.
Fake virus warnings, paused. Pages that say "Your computer is locked, call Microsoft" and try to take over the screen get paused. You see a calm PonchoGuard page instead. "Close this page" is the big button; you can still choose to see the page. Real news articles about these scams are left alone.
A second look before paying. On gift-card, Bitcoin, money-transfer and wire pages, a small card offers to ask your family before you pay. One tap hides it for the day.
Your family, in the loop (optional). Connect the extension to your family's PonchoGuard with a one-time code from the family dashboard at ponchoguard.com. If you choose to keep a fake warning open, your family hears about it so someone can call. The websites you visit are never sent.
Private by design.
- Pages are checked on your computer. Their words and addresses never leave it.
- When connected, only your choice on a pause page ("closed" or "kept open") is sent, with the browser's name.
- No ads, no tracking, nothing sold.
Report a problem. Something not working? Use "Report a problem" in the extension menu.
Large text, high contrast and big buttons throughout, built for people who don't love computers. The extension is free.
PonchoGuard is careful, not perfect. If you think you have been scammed, call your bank using the number on your card.
