The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About PageSift — Web to Markdown
Turn web pages into Markdown you can edit, save and reuse.
PageSift extracts an article or selected passage and removes common page clutter. Prepare notes, research material or context for an AI assistant — directly in your browser, without an account.
✍️ Convert, edit and preview
• Convert the current page or just the text you select.
• Edit the result in the popup or open an independent copy in a full browser tab.
• Preview Markdown with headings, lists, tables and code blocks.
• Find text with Ctrl/Cmd+F, adjust the font size and toggle line wrapping.
• Use syntax highlighting and format Markdown, HTML or JSON. Undo the last formatting operation for the current format while its text remains unchanged.
• Copy or download the current version, including your edits.
Remote images appear as labels in the preview; embedded scripts do not run.
📋 Formats and templates for your workflow
Export Markdown, HTML, JSON, plain text or ChatGPT-ready text. Choose Clean Markdown, Obsidian YAML frontmatter, ChatGPT, Claude, or Quote + source.
Editing Markdown also updates the ChatGPT text. HTML, JSON and plain-text edits remain independent. AI templates prepare text locally for you to copy; PageSift does not send it to an AI service.
🖼️ Choose how to handle images
• Keep links to the original image URLs.
• Omit images from the export.
• Download images to a dedicated folder in Downloads.
Image downloads contact the original hosting sites. Markdown image paths change to local paths only after a successful download.
🗂️ Local history and temporary drafts
Your last 50 converted clips are stored on your device with titles, source URLs, templates and timestamps. Reopen a clip to copy it again or follow its source link. History retains the original conversion, up to 100,000 characters per clip; it does not back up later edits.
Full editing drafts are kept separately in browser session memory. They can survive reopening the popup or reloading an editor tab, but are removed when Chrome closes or the extension is reloaded, disabled or updated. Download important edits to keep them permanently.
🎛️ Rules for individual websites
For unusual page layouts, choose the main content and elements to remove using CSS selectors. Defaults and per-site rules are saved locally and applied to later conversions.
⚡ Start in a few steps
1. Open a page or select the passage you need.
2. Click PageSift and choose a template and image mode.
3. Convert, review, then copy or download.
You can also convert from the page or selection context menu. Alt+Shift+M converts and copies using your saved preferences; you can reassign it in Chrome's extension shortcut settings.
🔒 Local processing and clear permissions
PageSift processes your chosen content and its source address locally. It does not upload clips to the developer, use analytics, sell data or sync history to the cloud. Clipboard contents are not read.
Permissions support access to the page you choose, context-menu actions, local storage, copying and requested downloads. Clearing clip history does not remove separate session drafts, downloaded files or clipboard copies.
🌍 Languages and limitations
The interface supports English, Russian, German, Spanish and Simplified Chinese, following Chrome's interface language. Page content is not translated.
Chrome blocks conversion on internal browser pages, the Chrome Web Store and other protected pages. Results may be incomplete on complex web applications or content inside inaccessible frames. Review the extracted text before using it.
