About OpenRec - Free Screen Recorder (No Watermark & Time Limit)

OpenRec — Free Screen Recorder for Chrome | No Watermark, No Time Limit, No Account Record your screen, webcam, and audio entirely on your device. No uploads. No sign-up. No watermark. No subscription. Ever. OpenRec is a free Chrome screen recorder extension that captures your desktop, browser tab, or window alongside your microphone, system audio, or both — then lets you trim, export as GIF, and manage everything from a built-in library. Every recording lives exclusively in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to any server, because there isn't one. WHY OPENREC? Most "free" screen recorders come with a catch — a watermark burned into every video, a 5-minute cap, a mandatory account, or a cloud upload you didn't ask for. OpenRec has none of that: • No watermark — ever, on any recording, at any length • No time limit — record for 30 seconds or 3 hours, your call • No account — open the extension, click Start, done • No cloud — recordings never leave your machine • No subscription — no free tier, no premium tier, just free • One permission — local storage, to save your preferences Screen recordings of your own computer should stay on your computer. OpenRec is built around that premise. RECORDING MODES Screen Only — capture your full screen, a single window, or one browser tab with no webcam attached. Screen + Camera — your screen is the main feed with a draggable, resizable webcam bubble overlaid on top. Camera Only — your webcam fills the frame with no screen capture. Mirror toggle included. Reaction Video — choose who takes the spotlight: • Camera-primary: your face fills the frame, a live 16:9 screen window floats on top • Screen-primary: your screen fills the frame, your webcam appears as a corner bubble OUTPUT ORIENTATIONS Landscape (16:9) — standard widescreen output for YouTube, tutorials, meetings, and game clips. Portrait (9:16) — vertical output built for YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and any short-form vertical platform. • Fit to Centre: letterboxes your widescreen recording in the middle of the portrait canvas • Scale to Fit: drag a 9:16 crop frame over your screen to choose exactly which region fills the portrait canvas WEBCAM BUBBLE CUSTOMIZATION • Drag to any corner — top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right • Free-drag positioning anywhere on the canvas in Reaction Video mode • Circle or rectangle shape • Adjustable size from 10% to 50% of the canvas width • Optional border in white or your accent color • Adjustable opacity • Mirror camera toggle — available in all modes including camera-only • Automatic edge-clamping: resizing or switching modes never pushes the bubble off-screen AUDIO OPTIONS • Microphone only • System (desktop/tab) audio only • Microphone + system audio mixed together • No audio — video only Note: Chrome delivers system audio when sharing a full screen on Windows/ChromeOS, or any browser tab on any platform. Sharing a single window or screen on macOS/Linux does not include system audio — this is a Chrome/OS limitation, not a bug. RECORDING CONTROLS • Pause and resume at any time during a recording • Stop instantly with a click or the Esc key • Optional countdown before recording starts: none, 3, 5, or 10 seconds • Quality presets: Standard, High, or Ultra BUILT-IN VIDEO PLAYER Every recording opens in a full custom video player — play/pause, skip back or forward 10 seconds, volume control, a seek bar, and fullscreen — all inside OpenRec, without opening a third-party site. EDITING TOOLS Trim — cut the beginning or end of any recording and save the result as a new file. Your original is always left untouched. GIF Export — export the first 15 seconds of any recording as an animated GIF, encoded entirely on your device. No external tools, no uploads. Rename — rename any recording from its card in the library, or right after you finish recording on the recording-complete screen. LIBRARY AND ORGANISATION • Automatic thumbnail from each recording's first frame • Search recordings by name or date • Sort newest or oldest first • Filter by date range, recording duration, or file size • Favourites — star recordings and find them all in one place with the same search, sort, and filter tools • Bulk actions — select multiple recordings to export or delete them all at once BIN — SOFT DELETE, NOT PERMANENT Deleting a recording moves it to the Bin first — just like your computer's trash — where you can restore it or delete it for good. Nothing disappears by accident. Empty the Bin whenever you're ready to free up the space. BACKUP AND RESTORE Bundle your entire library — every recording, every preference, all thumbnails, and the Bin — into a single backup file you control completely. Restore it on the same computer or carry it to another one. You own the file; store it wherever you like. YOUR DATA, YOUR DEVICE, YOUR CALL OpenRec has no server to send your recordings to, because it doesn't have one. There is nothing to leak, because there is nothing anywhere except your own browser's local storage. A live storage panel shows you exactly how many recordings you have, how much space they're using, and how close you are to your browser's storage limit, so you always know what's stored and can clear it whenever you like. The extension asks for one permission — local storage, to remember your preferences. Screen and camera access are requested by your browser itself, exactly the way any website would ask, and only at the moment you click Start. IN-APP UPDATE NOTIFICATIONS OpenRec checks for new versions and tells you right inside the app — showing what changed — so you always know when something new is available. MAKE IT YOURS • Light theme, dark theme, or auto (follows your system setting) • Ten accent colors — pick the one that fits your workflow • All preferences are saved and restored across sessions: orientation, screen fit, reaction layout, webcam bubble position, size, shape, opacity, bord…
