The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Open WebUI Assistant
Open WebUI Assistant adds AI writing tools to your browser, powered by the server you host yourself.
Select text, right-click, and rewrite it, fix it, summarize it, translate it or chat about it. Your text goes to the server you control and nowhere else.
You sign in with your own account, so you get the same models, settings and permissions you already have. There is no shared API key, and your login stays saved on your computer so you are not asked to sign in every time you open Chrome.
Single sign-on for teams (Enterprise)
Rolling this out across an organization? The Enterprise license adds OIDC login. People sign in through the identity provider your server already uses, instead of a separate username and password, so IT can manage access the way they manage other internal tools. This requires a server that is already configured for single sign-on.
What it does
Select text and right-click:
βοΈ Rewrite: improve clarity and flow, replaced right on the page
β Fix Grammar: silently corrects errors in place
π Check Grammar: detailed explanations in the side panel
π Expand: add about 25% more detail while keeping your tone
π Shorten: condense to the key points
π Summarize: a concise summary in the side panel
π¬ Chat: converse about the selection with full page context
π Translate: English and Spanish free, 10 more languages with Pro
π Speak Aloud: hear the selection read to you
With nothing selected:
π Explain This Page: an AI summary and analysis of the current page
Also free: optional streaming responses, a saved prompt library, a pinned items board, chat export, and a 3-day interaction memory log.
Pro and Enterprise
π΅οΈ AI Text Detector: estimates how likely a passage is to be AI-written, with the patterns behind the estimate (an estimate, not proof)
βοΈ Custom Actions: create your own right-click actions, saved as Markdown files you can import and export
π¨ Seven tone presets and ten more translation languages
πΌοΈ Image analysis and vision chat
βοΈ Smart Compose and Summarize & Speak
π₯οΈ Your full web interface inside the side panel, with auto-login
π Higher-quality text-to-speech voices from your server
π§ Unlimited memory history
π Enterprise only: OIDC single sign-on
Pro and Enterprise are one-time purchases per seat, with no subscription. Get a license at https://www.graytechnical.com/open-webui-assistant/ and unlock it with a license code in Settings.
Built for security-conscious teams
Because everything runs through your own server, your writing is not sent to a third-party AI service. That makes it a good fit for regulated industries and any workplace with strict data-handling requirements, as well as home users who prefer to self-host.
Where it works
It works in your web email, in Google Workspace documents, and in text fields on the other websites you use.
Privacy
- Connects only to the server you configure
- No third-party services, analytics or tracking
- Your login is stored only on your computer, in Chrome's local extension storage. It is not synced to your Google account and is sent only to your own server.
- Open source: https://github.com/GrayTechnicalLLC/Open-WebUI-Assistant
Requirements
- A running Open WebUI instance (local or remote)
- An account on that instance
- At least one AI model configured on it
- For single sign-on: an Enterprise license and a server already configured for it
