The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Nanoside
Summarise and translate the page you are reading, entirely on your own device.
Nanoside uses Chrome's built-in on-device AI (the Gemini Nano family). Page content and the questions you type are never sent to a server. The extension is built so it cannot open a network connection at all, which means the promise is kept by its structure rather than by a setting you have to trust.
■ WHY YOU MIGHT NEED THIS
• Pages behind a login — content you cannot paste into a server-based translator
• Company intranets, wikis, issue trackers, admin consoles
• Contracts and HR documents that must not be uploaded to an outside service
• Getting through technical documentation, papers and release notes quickly
• Planes, trains, anywhere without a connection (fully offline after the one-time model download)
■ WHAT IT DOES
Summarise — key points, a single paragraph, or section by section following the document's own headings. Three lengths for each.
Translate — the whole page, or just what you selected. Read the translation on its own, or with the original underneath each paragraph for comparison. 34 languages in the list, plus any BCP 47 tag you type.
Ask — put a question to the page in your own words, or use one of the preset buttons.
Code blocks are never translated. They are kept exactly as written, because a translated identifier is worse than no translation.
Results are rendered as Markdown, so tables, nested lists and code blocks keep their shape.
Cancel actually stops the inference. It does not just clear the screen while work continues behind it.
Reopen a page you already summarised and the cached result appears instantly. Lifetime and size are configurable, and everything can be deleted at once.
The interface ships in English and Korean and follows your browser's language, or whichever you pick in settings. Dark mode and keyboard shortcuts included.
■ PRIVACY
• Page content, selected text and your questions are processed only on this device
• No account, no sign-in, no API key
• No analytics, no tracking
• It never falls back to an external AI service. If the built-in AI is unusable, it tells you what is missing instead
• Settings and cached results stay in this browser's local storage
■ REQUIREMENTS (please check before installing)
• Chrome 138 or newer, desktop (mobile is not supported)
• Windows 10/11, macOS 13+, Linux, ChromeOS (Chromebook Plus)
• 22GB of free storage for the model download
• A GPU with more than 4GB VRAM, or 16GB RAM and 4 cores
Chrome downloads the built-in model once, the first time it is needed. It is several gigabytes, so it takes a while. Progress and remaining time are shown, and if you close the sidebar mid-download it picks up from where it got to.
■ GOOD TO KNOW
• The summarizer can only output a few languages directly (English, Japanese, Spanish, German, French). For anything else it summarises in the source language and then translates, and says so on the result.
• Not every language pair works on every machine — support depends on the device and Chrome version. When there is no direct pair, translation routes through English, which costs a step of quality.
• In-page translation that rewrites the document itself is not supported. Results appear in the sidebar.
• Showing the original alongside translates paragraph by paragraph, so long documents take a while. Progress is shown and it can be cancelled at any point.
• It cannot run on pages the browser blocks extensions from, such as chrome:// pages and the Chrome Web Store.
