About MRD Regex Autocopy
# MRD Regex Autocopy
**MRD Regex Autocopy** automatically copies text to your clipboard when selected, running optional site-specific regex search-and-replace rules and BETWEEN extraction directives.
## Key Features
- **Instant Selection Copy:** Automatically copies selected text upon mouse release without needing Ctrl+C or right-click menus.
- **Per-Site Regex Transformation:** Group find-and-replace (`s/pattern/replacement/flags`) and `BETWEEN` capture directives by URL glob pattern.
- **Long-Selection Guard:** Prevents browser security copy drops on selections dragged longer than 4 seconds with a click-to-copy floating prompt.
- **Customizable Indicator:** Visual feedback with an emoji dot or text near your cursor or pinned to a screen corner, with instant red warning on invalid regex rules.
- **Custom Plain-Text Templates:** Add headers or footers with placeholders (`{title}`, `{url}`, `{timestamp}`, `{text}`).
- **Site Blocklist:** One-click button to block or unblock specific websites from autocopying.
- **Cloud Sync with Local Backup:** Rules automatically split across storage buckets when large, with local startup snapshots to prevent accidental data loss.
## Feature Guide
### What this extension does
When you select text on any web page, this extension copies it for you automatically —
no right-click, no Ctrl+C. Before copying, it can reshape the text using find-and-replace
rules you write (regex rules, grouped by website). You'll see a small green dot appear
near your cursor for a moment: that's the confirmation the copy happened. Everything is
configured in the popup: turn autocopy on or off, block specific sites, set how rich the
copied text is, and manage your rules.
### Getting text copied
Select at least 50 characters (adjustable) on a normal page and release the mouse — the
text lands on your clipboard with a green-dot confirmation. Selections that start inside
typing fields (inputs, text boxes, editable editors) are never copied, so normal typing
is untouched. You can pause everything with the big ON/OFF button, or press BLOCK on any
site you never want touched. Holding the modifier key (Shift/Alt/Ctrl, optional) flips
one copy between rich-text and plain-text mode without changing your setting.
### Long selections
If a selection drag takes longer than 4 seconds, the browser's security rules stop the
automatic copy. The extension then shows a small panel near your cursor: click it and
the selection is copied anyway. The threshold is adjustable, and the panel explains the
delay. Right after, the copy includes the selection's formatting (if rich-text mode is
on) or its plain text.
### Regex rules
Rules are groups: a URL pattern decides which pages a group applies to (empty or `*` =
everywhere). Inside a group, each line is one directive applied in order. Two directive
types: `s/pattern/replacement/flags` — find-and-replace like a search bar, e.g.
`s/\s+/ /g` collapses repeated spaces; and `BETWEEN +1(start),-1(end)` — keeps only the
text between the Nth match of a start pattern and the Mth match of an end pattern
(BETWEEN1/2/3 include the start/end markers themselves). If any rule is invalid, the
copy still happens but the raw, untransformed text is prefixed with a red 🔴 REGEX ERROR
marker, and a red dot appears instead of green. Rules can be exported to and imported
from JSON files.
### Blocked sites
Pressing BLOCK adds the current site to your blocked list; the button then reads UNBLOCK.
The manage panel lists every blocked pattern as an editable row with a delete button.
Patterns are simple wildcards: `*` matches anything, so `example.com` with a wildcard
covers its pages and subdomains.
### Copy format
Plain-text copies can carry a custom header template. Placeholders: `{title}` (page
title), `{timestamp}` (date/time of the copy), `{url}` (page address), `{text}` (the
copied text). `{text}` is always ensured — if you delete it, the extension appends it at
the end. Rich-text copies ignore this template (they keep the page's formatting).
### The indicator
The green dot is customizable: change its emoji/text, its offset from your cursor, or
give it custom CSS — including a separate fixed-position style that pins it to a screen
corner instead of following the cursor. It shows for 1.5 seconds and fades. It can be
disabled entirely, but error indicators (red) always show.
