The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Middle-Click Paste Guard
# Chrome Web Store Listing — Middle-Click Paste Guard
## Title
Middle-Click Paste Guard
## Short description (for the 132-character field)
Undo or preview accidental middle-click pastes in any text field — without disabling middle-click scrolling.
## Full description
**Middle-click into a text field and the wrong thing lands in it? This extension catches that paste before it causes a problem — either with a one-click Undo, or by showing you exactly what's about to be pasted first.**
Middle-click paste (pasting whatever you last selected, common on Linux) is fast — until it fires in the wrong field. You select a sentence to re-read it, then middle-click a search box or chat input out of habit, and suddenly that sentence is sitting there instead of what you meant to type. Or worse: you highlight a password or API key for some other reason, then middle-click into a public form field and it lands there, visible to everyone.
Every other extension that touches middle-click paste solves this by disabling middle-click entirely — which also kills middle-click autoscroll, a feature most people still want. Middle-Click Paste Guard doesn't do that. It leaves normal middle-click behavior alone everywhere, and only steps in at the exact moment a middle-click paste is about to land in an editable field.
**Two ways to stay protected — you choose:**
- **Undo-toast mode (default):** the paste happens as normal, but a small toast immediately appears with an Undo button. Click it and the field goes back to exactly what it said before — no digging through undo history, no retyping.
- **Ask-before-paste mode:** nothing gets inserted until you say so. A preview bubble shows you the text that's about to be pasted, with Paste and Cancel buttons. Perfect if you want to double-check every middle-click paste before it lands, especially in chat apps, forms, or anywhere you might accidentally paste something sensitive.
Turn either mode on globally or per site — some sites you might want left alone entirely, others you might want the stricter Ask-before-paste mode. It's all one toggle and one dropdown, right in the toolbar popup.
**Who this is for:**
- Linux users who rely on middle-click (primary selection) paste daily and got tired of the "middle-click paste ruined my message" moment
- Anyone who's ever middle-click pasted into the wrong field in Slack, a forum, a search box, or a chat app
- People who want a safety net before pasting into public or shared text fields
**How it works, technically:**
The extension watches for a middle mouse button click immediately followed by a paste into an editable field (an input, textarea, or any contenteditable element). If that pattern matches, it applies whichever mode you've picked. Regular Ctrl+V pastes and normal middle-click scrolling/autoscroll are never touched — only the specific middle-click-paste-into-a-field pattern triggers the guard.
**Privacy — no accounts, no servers, no tracking:**
Middle-Click Paste Guard runs 100% locally in your browser. There's no backend, no analytics, no account to create, and no data ever leaves your device. Your on/off preference and per-site settings are stored locally using Chrome's storage API and are never transmitted anywhere. Full privacy policy and terms linked below.
**Common questions:**
*Does this disable middle-click scrolling/autoscroll?* No. It only activates when a middle-click paste lands in an editable field. Middle-click anywhere else works exactly as before.
*Does it work on Windows and Mac too?* The extension works on any OS, though the specific "middle-click pastes your last selection" behavior it's designed to catch is most common on Linux. On Windows/Mac it still catches the same detected pattern if your setup produces it.
*Can I turn it off for specific sites only?* Yes — set a per-site override from the toolbar popup, or manage the full list from the options page.
*Does it read my clipboard constantly?* No. It only looks at the text involved in a paste event at the exact moment that paste event fires — the same information any web page's own JavaScript can already see during a paste. Nothing is stored, logged, or sent anywhere.
