The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Markpin – Web Highlighter & Reading Notes
Markpin brings what you do with a paper book to the web: highlight a line, write a thought in the margin, leave a bookmark, open it again later. What you mark and note as you read slowly becomes your own thinking.
A browser bookmark keeps a link. Markpin keeps what you marked and what you thought while reading.
MARK AS YOU READ
• Select a sentence to highlight it in one of four colors.
• Add a mark: ? for a question, ! for something new, × for a disagreement, ★ for a key point.
• The note box asks first: "Why did you mark this?" Write the thought it sparked as a note, right there.
• Drag a rectangle over a passage or an image to keep it as a clip.
• The floating button or a keyboard shortcut saves the whole page.
PICK UP WHERE YOU STOPPED
• Leave a bookmark and continue from where you stopped next time.
• A thin rail along the left edge shows your marks and where you left off as dots; click one to jump back.
• When you finish, mark the page as read and sum it up in one line, from memory.
• Didn't finish it? Mark it as skimmed, so the record stays true.
• Your highlights and notes are still on the page when you return.
FIND IT AGAIN
• Search the full text of everything you saved and see the matching snippet.
• Rename and merge tags, filter by highlight color and mark, and get a one-line summary written by Chrome's on-device model.
YOUR FILES, YOUR MARKDOWN
• Each page becomes one Markdown file in a folder you pick or in your Google Drive.
• Obsidian opens it with clean properties, ==highlights== and callouts.
• Turn on the option and deleted pages move to .trash.
YOUR AI READS IT AND WRITES BACK
• Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and other MCP clients search and read your pages through the local @markpin/mcp server, and can leave notes and bookmarks for you.
WHERE YOUR DATA GOES
• It starts in your browser. Nothing to set up, and it works offline.
• Connect a folder on your computer or your Google Drive, and the same files sync there. Nothing else gets uploaded.
• The MCP server runs on your computer and reads that folder, so your AI tools can see your pages without anything leaving your machine.
• Summaries and tag suggestions use Chrome's built-in on-device model. You can turn them off in the options.
There is no server, no account and no analytics. The files are yours.
