About Marketplace Watchdog for Digitec/Galaxus
# Marketplace Watchdog
Marketplace Watchdog is a browser extension that adds a small, helpful panel to product pages on digitec.ch and galaxus.ch. Using the shop's own data, it highlights three crucial details that are often easy to miss: the actual seller, the price history, and the reliability of the delivery estimate.
Some third-party marketplace listings feature heavily inflated prices, often paired with weeks-out or open-ended delivery dates. While the shops already publish price histories and delivery estimates, this extension automatically reads, compares, and flags concerning combinations for you.
# What the Panel Shows
Seller Identity: Clarifies whether the item is sold directly by Digitec or Galaxus or by a third-party marketplace seller, including the name of the specific seller.
Price Context: Compares the current price against the shop's own historical data. It displays the last recorded price, the typical price based on a 3-month median, the 30-day low, and the all-time low across the recorded window.
Delivery Red Flags: Highlights delivery dates that are far out, open-ended, or quoted with suspiciously wide date ranges.
Combo Alerts: Warns you when an inflated price and an uncertain delivery show up together, which is a common pattern for the worst marketplace listings.
# How the Alerts Work
The extension stays quiet when there is nothing to worry about. If it spots a normal listing, it just shows the plain figures. For price increases, it uses a simple color-coding system. Small or gradual price increases are flagged in amber, while large, sudden price jumps are flagged in red.
# Privacy First
Everything runs locally in your browser. The extension requests no special permissions, collects no data, and sends nothing to any third-party server. The only network requests made go directly to Digitec or Galaxus to fetch the same price-history data the site already uses for its price-trend charts.
# Supported Languages
The panel automatically matches the language of the page you are viewing in English, German, French, or Italian, and defaults to English if the language is unsupported.
# Disclaimer
This extension operates on a best-effort basis and comes with no guarantees. It relies on undocumented internals of the Digitec and Galaxus websites; therefore, a site update could temporarily break the extension or cause it to show nothing. Marketplace Watchdog is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Digitec Galaxus AG.
