LookStuffUp: Instant answers without breaking your flow. Tired of popping open a new tab for every little thing? Same. LookStuffUp puts knowledge right where you need it: on the page. Why it exists: I built this because I am someone who gets easily distracted and wanted something like this without paying for it. That's why it is and always will be 100% free. No ads, no in-app purchases/sign-ups, no paywalls. All the features you see are yours to use, right out of the box. Key Features: - Instant Context: Highlight text to see concise info with source links if you want to go deeper. - Intelligent & Multi-Source Search: I've designed the search to be smart. It pulls the best information from multiple sources like Wikipedia, Wiktionary, and the dictionary to give you a well-rounded definition or summary. (Optional Google boost: Add your own free Google API key for higher‑quality web lookups without leaving the page. This is usually free if you use it wisely) - On-Device AI: Explain, Summarize and Translate, all running on your device. Explain in plain words (concise, ELI5, or with a quick example), summarize at short, medium or long length, and translate between 20 languages. Uses Chrome’s built-in AI where available, otherwise it downloads a compact open model once and works offline after that. A GPU makes it much faster, but it will work on CPU :) Make it yours: - Drag it anywhere on the screen. - Toggle Dark Mode. - Adjust the font size. - Set a custom background color (the text color adjusts automatically for readability!). - Per‑site control: One‑click “Disable on this site” and a blacklist to turn it off if the pop up is bothering you on a website where you don’t want it on ;) Privacy-first by design: - No tracking. No ads. No analytics. - Your API key (if added) stays in your browser’s local secured storage. - Lookup history stays on your device. - You can disable lookups or blacklist sites anytime. - Explain, Summarize and Translate run locally. Your text is never sent anywhere for AI. The only AI download is the model files. I don't collect any of your data. Your business is your own.
