The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Local Authenticator
Local Authenticator is a simple, privacy-focused browser authenticator that helps you quickly complete two-factor authentication for services such as GitHub, Google, and Microsoft.
You can quickly add a TOTP account by directly scanning the QR code on the current webpage, uploading a QR code image, or manually entering a Base32 key. After adding, the extension will display the real-time verification code and remaining time in a browser pop-up window, supporting account searching, one-click copying, editing, and deletion.
All account data is stored in a local encrypted vault, requiring no account registration and not relying on cloud services. You can protect the vault with a master password, manually lock it when leaving the browser, and migrate your account to other devices via encrypted backups.
Main functions:
- Generate TOTP one-time verification code
- Scan the QR code on this webpage
- Upload QR code image and import
- Manually enter the `otpauth://` information or Base32 key.
- Search, copy, edit, and delete accounts
- Master password protects local encrypted vault
- Manually lock the vault
- Export and restore encrypted backups
- Supports Simplified Chinese, English, and more languages
- No account registration required; core functions can be used even offline.
Privacy Commitment:
- OTP keys and verification codes are processed locally only.
- Do not upload account, key, verification code or master password
- Does not include advertising, behavior tracking, or remote statistics
- Does not include payment, membership, subscription or cloud sync features.
Permissions instructions:
- `storage`: Stores a local encrypted vault and necessary settings.
- `alarms`: Supports automatic locking of related timers.
- `clipboardWrite`: Copy the verification code to the clipboard.
- `activeTab`, `scripting`: Check the QR code image on the current page only when the user actively clicks "Scan QR code on current webpage".
This extension will not automatically read webpage passwords, form content, or CAPTCHAs, nor will it automatically fill in or submit login forms.
This project is continuously being improved. If you encounter any issues with QR code recognition, import, or CAPTCHA generation, please provide reproducible error messages and your browser version.
