About LabelGrade
LabelGrade shows a grade from S (best) to E right on the product page while you shop, so you don't have to dig through labels.
How it grades
• Food grades start from the public Nutri-Score algorithm, checked against Santé publique France's own calculation sheet.
• Each grade shows the one or two facts that mattered most, with the number and the standard it's compared against. Example: "Sugar 30.8 g per 100 g (UK FSA 'high' is over 22.5 g)".
• Ingredient flags come from published rules only: the six colours that need an EU warning label, titanium dioxide (E171), aspartame (both the IARC and JECFA positions), palm oil.
• Every rule and its source is listed on the built-in "How we grade" page.
Your country's own rules
Where your country has an official front-of-pack labelling scheme, the card adds one line showing what that scheme says about the product.
When the page doesn't show the label
• LabelGrade reads the label from the product photos, on your computer.
• If you open the brand's page from "Find the full label" and click the LabelGrade icon, it reads the label there.
• It checks LabelGrade's own label database (about 2 million products from Open Food Facts and USDA, refreshed twice a year), downloaded once for your country and searched on your computer.
• If you allow it, it can look the product up in USDA FoodData Central or Open Food Facts. Only the product name or barcode is sent.
• A star (for example B*) means the information was incomplete or came from a photo or database. "?" means there wasn't enough to grade. It doesn't guess.
Where it works
Major online grocery and shopping sites in the US, UK, India, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia, Canada, France, Germany and Brazil. The full list of supported shops is on the "How we grade" page inside the extension. Labels are read in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Thai.
Right now LabelGrade grades food for adults. Baby food, cosmetics, supplements and pet food show a "not graded yet" note while those standards are checked.
Free, no account, no ads, no affiliate links. LabelGrade never suggests other products.
Grades describe a label against published standards. They aren't medical advice.
