About Keysmith — Custom Keyboard Shortcuts
Keysmith lets you bind any key combination to 50+ browser actions — and it works the moment you install it.
WHY KEYSMITH
• Works immediately: shortcuts run on tabs you already have open. No page reloads, no developer-mode switches, no "Allow user scripts" toggle.
• Clear feedback: Keysmith tells you when a shortcut is already taken, or when Chrome reserves a combination (like Ctrl+T) that no extension can override.
• Autosave: every change is saved instantly.
• Moving from Shortkeys? Import your Shortkeys export file in one click. Anything we can't map is listed, never silently dropped.
• Private by design: no accounts, no tracking, no analytics, no remote code. Your settings stay in your browser (synced by Chrome if you use sync).
WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Tabs: next / previous / first / last, jump to tab 1–9, last-used tab, new tab (or to the right), duplicate, close, close others / left / right, reopen closed tab, pin, mute, move left / right / to a new window
• Windows: new window, new incognito window, close window
• Navigation: back, forward, reload, hard reload, open a URL, open a bookmark, copy page URL, copy title + URL as a Markdown link
• Scrolling: line, page, top, bottom — hold the key to keep scrolling
• Zoom: in, out, reset
• Video (YouTube and any HTML5 video): play/pause, speed up / down / reset, skip ±5 seconds
• Block a site's own shortcut with a "Do nothing" action
SMART CONTROLS
• Per-site rules: run a shortcut everywhere, only on certain sites, or everywhere except certain sites
• Choose whether a shortcut works while you're typing in text fields
• Match by physical key position (great for non-QWERTY layouts) or by the typed character
• Export and import your settings as a file
GOOD TO KNOW
Chrome does not allow extensions to run on chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store, or the New Tab page, so shortcuts are paused there.
