About Keepcast – Screen Recorder to MP4, No Sign-up
Keepcast records a browser tab, an app window or your whole screen – with sound – and saves a real MP4 straight to a folder on your computer. No account, no watermark, no time limit, and nothing is ever uploaded. Record it. Keep it.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Click the extension icon.
2. Choose what to record: Tab, Window or Screen.
3. Press record. The timer runs in the popup and on the extension icon.
4. Pause and resume whenever you need.
5. Stop — the recording is converted to MP4 and the "Save as" dialog lets you pick the folder.
FEATURES
• Record a tab, any app window or the entire screen
• Tab audio, an app's sound or all system sounds
• Pause & resume — paused parts are simply left out of the file
• Smart auto-trim: the still, silent start and end (before you press play, after you pause) are cut automatically
• Real MP4 (H.264 + AAC) that plays everywhere: QuickTime, VLC, Windows, phones, video editors
• Choose the resolution (up to 4K), quality and 30 or 60 fps, with a file-size estimate
• Light & dark mode (or follow your system)
• Keyboard shortcuts: Alt+Shift+R to start/stop, Alt+Shift+P to pause/resume
• Long recordings are written to disk while recording, so they don't fill up your memory
• Nothing is lost: if you cancel the save dialog, you can save the recording again later
PRIVACY
Keepcast does not collect, send or store any data on a server. Recordings never leave your computer — they are processed locally in your browser and saved only where you choose.
NOTES
• System sounds on macOS need Chrome 141+ and macOS 14.2+, plus the "Screen & System Audio Recording" permission for Google Chrome.
• Chrome does not allow recording chrome:// pages or the Chrome Web Store as a tab — record a window or the screen instead.
