About Get SJR Categories

Get SJR Categories is a Chrome extension designed to cross-reference academic publication metadata against SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) indicators. It integrates standard quartile badges and category metrics directly onto Google Scholar citation pages, while providing a versatile standalone search utility inside a vertical, side-by-side Chrome sidebar. Key Features 1. Native Sidebar Panel: Operates as a permanent, side-by-side window in Chrome (Manifest V3 Side Panel API), remaining open and accessible even if you click elsewhere on your screen. 2. Automatic Offline Setup: Bypasses manual file uploading. The extension automatically detects and indexes local datasets (e.g., scimagojr.csv, sjr_data.csv, or year-specific formats like scimagojr 2026.csv residing inside the extension folder) during installation or browser startup. 3. Seamless Google Scholar Integration: Injects standard quartile badges (SJR Q1, SJR Q2, SJR Q3, SJR Q4) directly onto Google Scholar publication lists. 4. Non-Leaking Hover Tooltips: Hovering over a badge reveals a detailed hover tooltip showing the SJR score, publisher ISSN, and a list of all indexed categories with their specific ranks and percentiles. Tooltips are built using pure CSS Flexbox div containers to stay fully immune to Google Scholar's global table overrides. 5. Three Convenient Workflows (Tabs): - Scan Profile: Programmatically scrolls and expands the active Google Scholar citations page (automatically clicks "Show more" sequentially until all publications are loaded) to analyze the entire portfolio. - Search by ISSN: Paste a list of ISSNs to instantly retrieve their corresponding SJR metrics. - Search by DOI (OpenAlex API): Enter DOIs to query the public OpenAlex API, resolve the paper's title and eISSN/ISSN values, and map them directly to our local SJR dataset. 6. Collapsible and Linked Publications: Groups papers published in the same journal under their category details. The first paper is shown inline, with subsequent papers packed neatly inside a collapsible "see more >" / "see less <" list. Each paper is fully hyperlinked to its absolute source. 7. One-Click CSV Export: Export scanned or searched journal data to a structured CSV file for record-keeping. The exported file features structured columns for searched DOIs/ISSNs, journal names, quartiles, category lists, specific paper titles, and citation links. 8. Local and Private: All SJR data processing and storage occur entirely within your browser. Your data is never transmitted to any external servers or shared with third parties. How It Works > Install the Extension: Add "Get SJR Categories" to your Chrome browser. > Verify Dataset Status: The extension automatically loads its packaged CSV on startup. Check the top of the sidepanel to see your loaded journal count. > Query or Scan: Navigate to a Google Scholar citation profile and click "Scan Current Page" in the sidebar. The page will automatically expand and compile a sorted list of the publications. Use the Search by ISSN or Search by DOI tabs for targeted lookup queries. > Export Your Records: Click "Export to CSV" to download the structured spreadsheet.
