Free Video Downloader saves the video playing on a page in one click, right inside your browser. It works with ordinary video files and with streaming video (HLS and DASH), which arrives as hundreds of short fragments: every piece is fetched and joined into one file that plays in any media player. There is no link to paste and no account to create. What it does - Finds what is playing and lists it, ready to grab in one click. - Joins stream fragments and puts separate picture and sound tracks back together. - Saves the video as MP4 or another common format of your choice, or the sound alone as MP3. - Copies the original without re-encoding whenever possible, so the quality stays exactly as the site delivered it. - Offers the resolutions the site actually has, up to 4K, and you pick one. - Fetches subtitles too, as a separate file in the language you choose, named to match the clip so most players load them automatically. - Extracts the sound in one click, turning a lecture or a podcast into a small audio file. - Writes data to disk as it arrives, so even a lecture several hours long goes through without running out of memory. - Records the tab when nothing can be detected, for example during a live broadcast. - Interface in 54 languages. Your browser, your session Instead of pasting a link into an outside website, you start from the page you already have open. Everything happens in your browser, in the same session, so sites where you are signed in work as usual. Data goes straight from the source to your computer and never passes through our servers or anyone else’s. When nothing is detected Sometimes there is nothing to detect: a live broadcast, a real-time stream, or a player that hides its source. For those cases, the extension can record the tab in real time, either the whole tab or only an area you select, and store the result on your computer. Recording re-encodes the picture, so it is a fallback: whenever the original can be fetched directly, that gives the better result. Free version and Pro The free version is not a trial: every feature described here works in it. The extension window shows partner offers; an optional Pro subscription removes them. Common questions Nothing shows up in the list? Start playback first: many players only begin loading once the clip is playing. If it still does not appear, record the tab. Can it save a live stream? A live stream has no finished file yet, so record the tab while it plays. What it cannot do It does not save DRM-protected content from paid streaming services. That content is encrypted, and no tool can decrypt it. The rule of thumb: if a clip plays in your browser and is not protected by DRM, it can usually be saved. Typical uses: save video lectures and online courses to watch offline, keep webinars and conference talks, and hold on to copies of your own uploads. Anonymous error reports: when a download fails, the extension sends only the website’s main domain and the error type, at most once a day, so we can fix sites that stop working. No page addresses, video links or installation ID are sent. This is on by default; you can turn it off at any time in the settings, in the “Privacy” section.
