The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Explain This
Select any text on a page, right-click, and get a plain-language explanation. It runs entirely inside your browser tab using a local AI model over WebGPU. Nothing you select ever gets sent anywhere.
Why this exists: most "AI explain this" tools send your selection to a cloud API. That's fine for a random news article, but not great if you're reading something you'd rather not paste into ChatGPT, a contract, a medical result, or internal work notes. This one can't send anything anywhere, because there's no server for it to talk to in the first place.
The first time you use it, it downloads a small AI model (about 880MB) and caches it in your browser. That happens once. Every explanation after that is instant and works completely offline.
Requires Chrome or Edge with WebGPU support (recent desktop versions). Won't work on browsers without WebGPU, and it'll tell you that clearly instead of just failing silently.
