The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Excerpt Marker
Excerpt Marker is a local-first browser clipping tool for reading articles, researching, and collecting ideas.
Select any text on a webpage to copy it to the clipboard with one click, or mark it with colors and save it to the side panel. You can also use the right-click menu "Save to Excerpt Marker". The side panel shows today's clips by default. Every record keeps the full text, save time, source title, and URL, and supports notes, category tags, per-item copy/delete (with undo), bulk select, and bulk delete. Browse history by date, or search across clips, notes, tags, titles, and URLs.
The tab management module helps you organize open tabs:
- Auto-group tabs by domain, language, or site brand
- Smart deduplication to close duplicate tabs
- Snapshot open tabs and export the list as a text record
- Stash tabs for later reading into collections and close them
- Release inactive tabs after a custom idle time (off by default)
Personalization & helpers:
- Dark / light / system theme
- 8 accent colors that sync across the options page, side panel, and webpage floating bar
- Floating bar toggle with customizable colors and default category
- Custom in-page hotkey (default Ctrl+Shift+S) to save selected text
- 11 interface languages that follow your browser language
Export & privacy:
- Export any day's clips to Markdown / HTML / plain text / JSON
- All clips, tags, notes, and source info stay in your browser's local storage
- No cloud sync, no server uploads — your data stays on your device
