Eve for YouTube

Eve hides the low-quality videos on your YouTube home page and in the suggestions next to the video you're watching. Eve also hides Shorts and the ads on your home page. Eve learns what you already like on YouTube and keeps your home page to the videos worth your time. The low-quality stuff built to pull you in disappears, so the rabbit holes you fall into are good ones. I'm Simon Bruno, and I make Eve. How Eve works • To start, you register with your Google account in Chrome's own sign-in window. Eve gets your email address and name, nothing else. • When you set Eve up, it reads your likes, subscriptions and watch history on YouTube once, to learn which videos you want to see and which to hide. Then it drafts your Show and Hide lists. • You can change any line before a single video is hidden. • After that, Eve checks each video YouTube suggests against your Show and Hide lists and hides the low-quality ones, even when they're about something you like. • Click Eve's ring in Chrome's toolbar to change a line, pause Eve or delete everything. • See a video you never want more of? Open its ⋮ menu and choose Hide videos like this, and Eve adds a line to your Hide list. What Eve reads and keeps • Eve only runs on www.youtube.com. When you add Eve, Chrome warns that it can "read and change your data on www.youtube.com". Here, "change" means hiding videos in your own browser. Nothing changes in your YouTube account. • Eve sends the titles, channel names and lengths of the videos on the page to its server in Germany, along with your Show and Hide lists. The server uses a service I pay for, which doesn't train on them. The privacy page names it. • Eve keeps your Show and Hide lists and your changes, the titles and channels of the videos it kept and hid, and the email address and name of the Google account you register with. I read the lists and videos to fix Eve's mistakes, and I use your email and name to know who uses Eve and to reach you about Eve. Eve never stores your YouTube account. • Eve doesn't keep your likes, subscriptions or watch history. Eve never sells your data or uses it for ads, and delete everything removes your email and name too.
