About Downloader for Vimeo
Downloader for Vimeo saves the Vimeo video on the page you are already on as a file on your own machine — video, audio and subtitles — with no desktop app, no companion helper and no command line.
It works through your own browser session, exactly like the player does: if you can already watch it, Downloader can usually save it. It does not bypass DRM and it does not unlock anything you do not already have access to.
WHAT IT SAVES
• Progressive MP4, in every quality the player exposes
• HLS video, with segments fetched in parallel and assembled locally
• Audio on its own — lossless M4A, or MP3 at roughly 190 kbps
• Subtitles, native VTT or converted to SRT on the way out
• The poster frame as a JPG, up to 1920 wide, never upscaled
• PRO — the audio muxed into the video file by stream copy, with no re-encoding
• PRO — clips: drag two handles over the timeline and only the segments your selection touches are fetched. Ninety seconds out of a three-hour lecture costs about ninety seconds of data, not three hours of it.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Open the page you were already on. Downloader reads the URL, the iframes and the player config, so most videos are found without you pressing play. When one resists, it says what to do instead of failing silently.
2. Pick what you want out of it: a quality, an audio format, a subtitle track, the poster — or, on PRO, a window on the timeline. One card per video when a page has several.
3. The file is assembled locally and lands in your downloads folder under a name you can read. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
QUEUE AND HISTORY
Downloads run one at a time in a queue that survives Chrome putting the extension to sleep. A watchdog notices anything that stalls, so you can retry, restart or dismiss it instead of watching a stuck bar. Finished files land in a history grouped by day, with search, filters and export to CSV, JSON or TSV.
WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
• The tab has to stay open. An HLS download runs from the page it started on.
• Progress is an estimate. The bar tracks segments, not bytes.
• Long videos are slow. The remuxer runs single-threaded inside the browser, and very large files can run out of memory.
• Vimeo only, and no DRM. No YouTube, no other hosts, nothing protected by DRM. That is a deliberate scope, not a roadmap.
PRICING
Free is the whole product minus two actions: unlimited downloads, no counter, no quality cap, no watermark. PRO adds the muxed audio and clips for $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year. Cancel anytime, and you have a month to ask for your money back on the first charge. If PRO lapses nothing is deleted — your files, your history and your settings stay exactly where they are, and the two PRO actions simply lock again.
PRIVACY
The download happens entirely in your browser; the video never passes through our servers. Anonymous usage analytics can be switched off in Settings. Full policy: https://app.totalisventures.com/downloader/privacy/
