Direct Translate

Direct Translate helps you read webpages and PDFs and translate text you type. Local-first processing is available where supported by your browser; an optional compatible API can be configured with your own endpoint, model and key. • Webpages: bilingual, translation-only and original views. Search English passages using Chinese. Automatic page translation is off by default and requires explicit permission before it can run on new pages in the background. • PDFs: retain the original page, read translations alongside it or over paragraphs, and retranslate a page or paragraph. English/German OCR runs locally. By default, the original PDF, extracted text, successful translations and reading position are saved on your device. Choose “Read this time only” before opening or importing to avoid persistent reading records. • Reading packages: export and import a ZIP containing the complete original PDF and saved reading results. Packages are not encrypted; this is not an export to an ordinary translated PDF. • Input: after activating the extension on a webpage, quickly press Space three times in a supported text field, use the translation shortcut, or use the dedicated text page. Type zt followed by Space in the address bar to access text translation. The extension does not automatically search or submit forms. Privacy and service choices The developer does not operate a translation relay or collect translation content for analytics. Local features process text on your device. Semantic search may download model data on first use. If you choose API translation, selected text is sent directly to your chosen service; PDF translation includes a limited amount of text from adjacent pages for context. API services may charge separately and their privacy policies apply. API keys and reading records are stored locally without extension-level encryption in this version. You can clear your key and delete saved documents. Exported backups must be deleted separately. Use only material you are entitled to process. Do not send state secrets or restricted confidential material to a third-party service. Machine translation and OCR may be inaccurate; verify the original for contracts, amounts, medical information and other important decisions. Browser-internal pages, restricted pages and unsupported input fields may not work. Browser-provided local translation depends on device and language support.
