The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Dex - Download Manager
Dex brings Chrome download management to two places you already are: a compact panel on the page you are viewing, and a full download manager.
Chrome's built-in download bar shows only a short list. Cleaning it up, pausing a transfer, or finding an older task all mean leaving the page, and duplicate files, dangerous downloads, and ad downloads are hard to tell apart. Dex does not change how Chrome downloads; it adds a clear, actionable management layer on top, so you can handle things inline while browsing and open the manager when you want to work through history.
Why install it
Stay on the page you are on: the panel shows progress and lets you pause, resume, cancel, retry, open a file, reveal it in its folder, or remove a record without switching tabs.
Find and organize history: filter and sort by status, type, filename, and time, with paged lookup for long histories.
Act on many records at once: select several and batch pause, resume, cancel, or delete. Deleting records clears the list only unless you check "Also delete local files".
See which downloads need your decision: Chrome-flagged dangerous or insecure HTTP downloads are surfaced for confirmation in Chrome's own UI, and Dex never accepts them for you.
Discover what the current page offers: inspect its images, audio, video, and documents and start a download from there.
Notifications you can act on: a completion notification can open the manager, reveal the file, or open it, as configured.
What it does
Download panel: progress and per-record actions inside the page, without switching tabs
Download manager: list and grid views, sidebar, details, batch actions, and paged history
Resource inspector: find downloadable images, audio, video, and documents on the current page and download them directly
Filters and sorting: status, type, filename, and time, including a "deleted" state
Notifications and sound: completion and failure events, with configurable single-click and double-click actions
Appearance and language: light and dark themes, English and Simplified Chinese
Privacy
Dex processes downloads and page resources locally in Chrome. There is no analytics, advertising, telemetry, or developer-operated server, and your download or browsing data is never uploaded to a Dex backend (settings use Chrome sync). Resource-size checks and remote image/media previews contact the original resource servers directly, not Dex. Optional local file-content previews are off by default and require both the Dex setting and Chrome file-access permission.
Keyboard shortcuts
Open Dex: Ctrl+Shift+Comma (Command+Shift+Comma on macOS)
Pause all downloads: Ctrl+Shift+Period (Command+Shift+Period on macOS)
