The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Desk — PriorStates Studio
Desk puts PriorStates Hub in Chrome's side panel, as tabs of small apps that run on your own computer:
• Page, beside any web page: ask about the page, get answers with sources from the web, and keep the conversation as you move from page to page.
• Shelf: drag links, images and text from pages into your own folders, or save the page you are on as a note, as HTML or as a complete page.
• Docs, beside a Google Doc: it reads the document with no setup; with your Google access set up it also edits the document and answers its comments.
Everything runs on your machine. The extension only shows pages served by the hub at 127.0.0.1 and, when you ask, reads the tab you are looking at. It sends nothing to the developer and has no analytics.
Requires PriorStates Hub (free) on the same computer: https://priorstates.com/hub.html
Permissions, and why:
• Side panel: the extension is a side panel.
• Tabs: to know the URL of the tab in front, so the hub can pick the app for that site.
• Active tab and scripting: to read the text, headings, links and selection of the tab in front, only when you ask.
• Clipboard read: Google Docs exposes no selection, so you copy the text and press Use selection.
• Storage: the hub's port, chosen in the options page.
• Page capture: to save the page you are on as one complete file (.mhtml) when you choose that in Shelf.
• Native messaging: to start PriorStates Hub on this computer when it is not running. The hub registers the host itself; nothing else uses it.
• 127.0.0.1 and localhost: the hub on this computer. docs.google.com: reading Google Docs.
• Optional "all sites": lets the panel read any tab without clicking the icon first. Off until you turn it on.
