The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Copy as Markdown
# Copy as Markdown
Turn anything you can select in your browser into clean Markdown - no
flipping to a viewer, no pasting into a converter website, no cleaning up
afterwards.
Right-click a selection, choose **Copy as Markdown**, and the Markdown is on
your clipboard. Every copy is also kept in a local, searchable history, so
you can find it again later instead of hunting through old chats and notes.
## Why another "copy as Markdown" extension?
Most of them mangle anything that is not a paragraph. Copy as Markdown is
built on [Turndown](https://github.com/mixmark-io/turndown), the same
converter used by some of the largest note-taking tools, with the GitHub
Flavored Markdown plugin enabled - so the messy parts come out right.
## What it handles properly
- **Code blocks keep their language.** Fences are read from `language-`,
`lang-`, `highlight-source-` and `brush:` class names, plus
`data-language` and `data-lang` attributes. If the code itself contains
backticks, the surrounding fence grows automatically so the block is never
broken.
- **Everything GitHub understands.** Tables become pipe tables, task lists
become `- [x]` items, and strikethrough uses the double-tilde form that
every renderer accepts.
- **Structure survives.** Nested and ordered lists keep their numbering and
indentation, headings use `#` style, and block quotes stay block quotes.
- **Links and images stay useful.** Relative URLs are resolved against the
page you copied from, so they still work after you paste the Markdown into
a note, a ticket or a README.
- **Inline code is inline code.** A `<code>` element inside a paragraph no
longer gets double-wrapped the way naive converters do it.
- **Scripts and styles are dropped.** You get the text, not the page's
plumbing.
## A local history of everything you copy
Copying something used to mean "it is on the clipboard until the next copy".
Now every selection you convert is also kept on your own machine.
- **Nothing is lost.** Anything you copy stays available after you move on to
another page, another tab or another day.
- **No duplicates.** Copy the same passage twice and it is only kept once, so
the history never fills up with repeats.
- **One click away.** Open the saved Markdown page from the toolbar icon or
from the right-click menu.
## The saved Markdown page
- **Grouped by source.** Entries are grouped by the page they were copied
from, with the site's name and the full URL, so related snippets stay
together.
- **Search** across the page title, the source URL and the Markdown itself.
- **Re-copy, edit or delete** any entry. The Markdown is rendered as you read
it and edited in place, so fixing a stray line is a two-second job.
- **Delete all** clears the whole history after a confirmation.
- **Lazy loading.** Only a handful of groups is rendered at a time and more
load as you scroll, so the page stays fast even after thousands of copies.
## One menu entry, two actions
The right-click menu shows a single entry that adapts to what you are doing:
- text selected -> **Copy as Markdown**
- nothing selected -> **Open saved Markdown**
No submenus, no clutter.
## Private by design
- **No accounts, no sign-in, nothing to configure.**
- **No network requests at all.** The extension never contacts any server;
every library it uses is bundled inside it.
- **No analytics, no tracking, no telemetry.**
- **Nothing is ever uploaded.** Your history lives in the browser's own local
extension storage on your device.
- **You stay in control.** Delete any entry, or the entire history, whenever
you like.
- **No page content is read outside of the moment you invoke it.** The content
script only looks at your current selection when you click the context menu
entry, and it does nothing at any other time.
## Works the same in both browsers
The same code ships as a Manifest V3 build for Chrome, Edge and other
Chromium browsers, and as a Manifest V2 build for Firefox. It also handles
the common annoyance of right-clicking in a tab that was already open when
the extension was installed: the extension injects its own content script
on demand and just works.
## Need a PDF?
That is what your browser already does best: press Ctrl/Cmd+P and choose
"Save as PDF". The saved Markdown page prints cleanly too if you prefer to
archive a copy.
