Collapse All for Gmail™ adds a one-click Collapse all button to Gmail conversation views, with optional automatic collapse modes. The control remains available while you scroll, making it easier to manage long email threads without collapsing each expanded message manually. Collapse modes: Choose your preferred behavior by clicking the extension icon in Chrome’s toolbar: • Default (Manual): Collapse currently expanded messages only when you click the Collapse all button. This is the default setting. • Always collapse: Automatically collapse currently expanded messages each time you open a conversation. • Always collapse except starred: Leave expanded messages open when they are positively identified as starred and collapse the rest. Messages with an uncertain starred state are collapsed. Automatic collapse runs once when a conversation opens. Messages you expand afterward stay open, and changes to your selected mode apply to the next conversation you open. The manual Collapse all button remains available in every mode. Otherwise, it collapses only message cards that are confidently identified as expanded. Always collapse except starred uses individual message controls so confirmed starred messages can remain open. If a collapse target is ambiguous, the extension does nothing rather than risk activating an unrelated control. Privacy: Processing occurs locally in your browser. The extension runs only on mail.google.com and inspects limited structural UI state needed to identify conversations, expanded or collapsed messages, and confirmed starred messages. It does not collect, store, or transmit email bodies, subjects, sender or recipient information, email addresses, attachments, or other Gmail content. It has no analytics, tracking, advertising, accounts, external backend, or remotely hosted code. The extension saves only your selected collapse mode using Chrome’s extension storage. Chrome may sync this preference between your browsers according to your Chrome sync settings. No Gmail content is saved or synced. Collapse All for Gmail is free. Gmail is a trademark of Google LLC.
