Chat Light

Chat Light gives you an on-demand rendering mode for the current ChatGPT conversation. It applies browser rendering containment to eligible older messages that ChatGPT has already loaded, while leaving the original message elements in place. HOW TO USE 1. Open an existing conversation on chatgpt.com. 2. Open Chat Light and choose Enable for this conversation. 3. Choose Restore ordinary rendering when you want the ordinary view back. Reloading the page also clears the mode. The extension leaves the newest two loaded message turns in their ordinary rendering mode. It also excludes focused or selected turns and restores an older turn if its contents change. It stops when you navigate to another conversation or change the page width, so you stay in control of when the mode runs. LOCAL AND MANUAL Chat Light uses temporary access to the tab you invoke it on. It requests no persistent website host permission. Opening its controls checks the current URL, loaded turn count, and its own mode status. Enabling the mode also processes page structure, element dimensions, and focus/selection boundaries locally. It does not extract or save your conversation text, read your clipboard, send page data to a server, or run analytics or advertising. There is no separate account or subscription. LIMITS TO KNOW This version offers a reversible display option; a speed improvement on a slow live conversation has not been established. It does not promise faster AI responses, reduced memory use, prevention of freezes, or a larger model context. It works only with messages ChatGPT has loaded into the page. It does not load missing history, reconstruct a transcript, recover inaccessible chats, or support Claude. Native Find and copy remain ChatGPT/browser operations and depend on the content the website makes available. Restore the ordinary view before printing or exporting. If the site layout is unsupported, the extension cannot enable its mode. ChatGPT updates can affect compatibility.
