The Chrome Web Store rounds user counts down to the leading digit, so the user line moves in steps. The ratings count is exact and is the better signal of real adoption.
About Brownout — Local X Filter
Brownout gives you control over the account locations you see in your X feed.
Choose individual countries or entire regions using an interactive map and searchable list. Brownout adds location labels beside account names and hides or collapses matching posts according to your rules.
FEATURES
- Country and region filtering with a linked map and list.
- Location labels based on X's “About this account” information.
- Clearly marked personal country notes that you can add, edit or remove.
- Account exceptions, saved rule profiles and temporary pauses.
- A compact side tab and filtered-post drawer with Show once controls.
- Separate handling of embedded quotes, so a filtered quote need not hide the surrounding post.
- Reposts follow the sharing account when X exposes its handle; otherwise the original author is checked.
- Settings import and export.
PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS
Brownout runs on x.com. It reads account names, country estimates and post context to provide its filtering features. Rules, notes and cached locations stay in your browser. It does not read Chrome's browsing-history database, include analytics or advertising, sell data, or send data to developer-operated servers.
Location lookups go directly to X using your existing signed-in session. Brownout temporarily uses authentication and anti-CSRF headers from X's own requests in page memory. These headers are not saved in extension storage or included in exports. X receives and processes the lookups.
IMPORTANT
X's country estimate is not verified residence or nationality. Some locations may be unavailable or broad regions. Personal country notes are marked as set by you. Filtering is a viewing preference, not a determination about an account's identity or the quality of its posts. X interface changes and rate limits may affect operation.
