About BRACU Exam AttendSheet Saver
# BRACU Exam AttendSheet Saver
**BRACU Exam AttendSheet Saver** is a Chrome extension for downloading exam attendance sheets from the BRAC University Connect portal. It automates repetitive section-by-section downloads and can combine the resulting PDFs into a single attendance document.
## Overview
The extension provides a focused workflow around the BRACU Exam Attendance Sheet Download page:
- Opens the BRACU attendance-sheet portal directly from the extension.
- Verifies that the correct Attendance Sheet Download page is active before exposing download controls.
- Reads the available section options from the portal.
- Downloads attendance sheets for all sections or for a user-defined section range.
- Supports section identifiers such as `1`, `24`, `01`, `01A`, and `01B`.
- Sorts section identifiers naturally so that values such as `01A`, `01B`, `02A`, and `02B` are processed in the expected order.
- Saves individual attendance sheets using section-based filenames such as `S01A.pdf`.
- Optionally merges the downloaded PDFs into one course-level PDF.
- Optionally adds a blank page after a single-page attendance PDF during merging.
- Shows download and merge progress inside the side panel.
## Workflow
1. Open the extension side panel.
2. Select **OPEN PORTAL**.
3. Open or authenticate to BRACU Connect if required.
4. Navigate to the **Exam Attendance Sheet Download** page.
5. After the page is verified, **DOWNLOAD SETTINGS** becomes available.
6. Choose a section mode:
- **Select All** — processes every available portal section.
- **Manual Input** — specify a From and To value.
7. Review the selected sections shown after starting the download.
8. Choose whether PDFs should be merged and whether blank pages should be added to single-page PDFs.
9. Select **START DOWNLOAD**.
10. Monitor the progress panel until the individual downloads and optional merge are complete.
## Section Selection
### Select All
The extension reads the section list directly from the portal and sorts it naturally before processing. This prevents alphabetical ordering problems such as `10A` appearing before `2A`.
### Manual Input
Manual Input uses two text fields:
- **From** — defaults to `1`.
- **To** — defaults to `24`.
The fields accept values such as:
```text
1
01
01A
01B
24
```
Numeric endpoints are interpreted by section number. For example, when the portal provides `01A`, `01B`, `02A`, and `02B`, a numeric range covering sections 1 through 2 includes those available subsections.
Alphanumeric endpoints can also be used directly, allowing ranges such as `01A` through `05B` when those sections exist on the portal.
A maximum of 200 sections can be processed in a single run.
## PDF Download and Processing
The extension uses Chrome's download facilities for the individual attendance PDFs. For merging, it captures the PDF response associated with the portal's original download request and processes the PDF data in the extension's background service worker. It does not need to download the same PDF a second time just to perform the merge.
When merging is enabled, the final file is named using the selected course code:
```text
COURSECODE_Attendance_Merged.pdf
```
For example:
```text
CSE101_Attendance_Merged.pdf
```
Individual section files are saved with section-based names, for example:
```text
S01A.pdf
S01B.pdf
S02A.pdf
```
Chrome's normal filename conflict handling is retained, so existing files are not silently overwritten.
## Progress and Run State
The side panel provides:
- Total section count.
- Completed section count.
- Overall download progress.
- Current section status.
- Individual success and failure messages.
- PDF merge progress.
- Final merge status.
- A persistent completion log for the current run.
After a run finishes, the download settings are restored for a new run while the completed progress information remains visible.
## Privacy and Data Handling
Privacy is a core design requirement of this extension.
### No tracking or analytics
The extension does **not** track users. It does not contain analytics, advertising, telemetry, user profiling, or third-party tracking services.
### No external data collection
The extension does not send attendance sheets, student information, course information, section information, or downloaded PDF contents to an external server. There is no remote database or developer-controlled data collection service in the extension.
### Local processing
The information required to perform a download is processed locally by the extension and the user's browser. PDF merging is performed locally in the extension rather than by uploading the documents to an online PDF service.
### Portal access is functional, not tracking
The extension does need access to the BRACU Connect attendance-sheet page because it has to interact with the portal, read the available sections, initiate the requested downloads, and obtain the PDF data required for local processing. This access is used only to provide the extension's stated functionality.
### No Downloads-folder browsing
The extension does not scan or browse the user's Downloads folder. It uses Chrome's download API to create the files generated by the extension.
### No unrelated website access
The declared website access is limited to the BRACU Connect domain used by the attendance-sheet workflow. The extension does not intentionally operate on unrelated websites.
## Permissions
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions because they are required by its implementation:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| `sidePanel` | Provides the extension's side-panel interface. |
| `downloads` | Creates and monitors the attendance-sheet PDF downloads and the final merged PDF. |
| `debugger` | Captures the original PDF network response so the PDF can be merged locally without downloading the document a second time. |
| BRACU Connect host access | Allows the content script to interact with t…
