About Blasphemy Bleep
Blasphemy Bleep beeps or mutes swear words and the Lord's name taken in vain in YouTube videos, right as they are said. On X and LinkedIn it cuts them out of posts, so you read the post without them.
How it works
YouTube has timed captions for nearly every video. Blasphemy Bleep reads them, finds the words, and silences the sound from just before each word to just after it.
What it bleeps
- Swear words and slurs.
- Every use of God, Jesus, Christ and Lord, plus "goddamn", "omg" and "jeez". Captions carry no tone of voice, so sermons and worship get bleeped too: turn bleeping off with the button for those videos.
- Your own words and phrases, and never the words you exempt.
Using it
- A "Blasphemy Bleep" button sits under every video, next to Share. Click it to turn bleeping on or off.
- The dot on the button shows the state: green when bleeping is armed, grey while captions load, amber when a video has no captions, an empty ring when off.
- The round arrow next to it reloads the captions.
- The toolbar icon opens the settings: what to bleep, beep or plain mute, and your own word lists.
On X and LinkedIn
Posts, comments and profile bios lose the matched words, and an exclamation goes whole: "oh my God that was amazing" reads "that was amazing", "shut the fuck up" reads "shut up". The post itself stays. The same settings and word lists apply, and turning bleeping off brings the original text back.
Limits
- No captions, no bleeping.
- Auto-captions mishear a word now and then, and a misheard word gets through.
- Bleeping is aimed at English.
Privacy
Nothing leaves your browser unless you send a problem report. The extension reads captions inside the YouTube page and post text inside the X and LinkedIn pages, and keeps your settings in Chrome's own settings storage. No accounts, no tracking, no servers.
