About Better Video Controller

Speed up, slow down, skip and pause any video from your keyboard, on any website. Press D to speed up and S to slow down. Press J, K and L to skip back, play or pause, and skip forward. A small icon on the video confirms every key press, for example "1.2×" or "+5s". KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS • S / D: slow down / speed up by 0.1×, anywhere from 0.1× to 16× • J / L: skip back / forward 5 seconds • K: play / pause • P: picture-in-picture on / off • 1–9: jump to 10%–90% of the video, and 0 back to the start • H: show all the shortcuts over the video Every shortcut can be changed, and so can the speed step and the skip distance. MOUSE CONTROLS Move the mouse over a video to see its current speed, with buttons to slow down, speed up, open picture-in-picture, and list the shortcuts. The bar fades out when the mouse stops moving. FEATURES • Works on any website that plays HTML5 video, including embedded players and fullscreen video. • Customizable shortcuts, with Ctrl, Alt, Shift or Meta (⌘ on a Mac) if you like. Two actions can't share a key. • Works with any keyboard layout: shortcuts follow the physical key, so S stays S with a Thai, Russian or Dvorak layout. • Stays out of your way while you type: shortcuts never fire in search boxes or other text fields, and combinations such as Ctrl+S keep their usual meaning. • Controls the right video: the one that's playing, or else the largest one on the screen. • Settings sync through your Chrome profile and apply to open tabs right away, without a refresh. • The toolbar button shows your shortcuts, turns them off, and opens the settings. SETTINGS • Change any shortcut • Speed change per key press: 0.05 to 1 • Skip distance: 1 to 60 seconds • Turn the on-video icon, the first-play hint, the mouse controls, or the number keys on or off • Turn every shortcut off without uninstalling PRIVACY Better Video Controller collects no data: no analytics, no ads, no accounts, and no servers of its own. Its only permission is "storage", which saves your settings in your Chrome profile. Chrome says the extension can "read and change all your data on all websites" because the shortcuts have to work on any site that plays video. The extension only looks for video elements on the page and changes their speed and position. It doesn't read, store or send anything from the page. GOOD TO KNOW • Click the page once (or inside an embedded player) so it receives your key presses. • After installing, refresh the tabs that were already open. • Some players reset the speed on their own, for example when an ad starts. Press the key again. • On YouTube, J, K and L do what they usually do, but the skip distance follows your setting (5 seconds by default). • Chrome doesn't let extensions run on chrome:// pages or on the Chrome Web Store.
